Ok, we are fairly certain that JSFs won’t be able to fight themselves out of trouble with another aircraft with any certainty because they just arent built for it. The GR9s don’t have the capability to defend themselves properly or their carriers either from air attack. So is their any reason why the SHARs are being done away with. They are fully updated, combat proven, well respected and well armed. So why get rid of them? Of course they won’t be able to take on jets like a Raptor but they are perfectly capable of taking on most fighters that they would be likely to have to face. Is it to cut down on types operated by the navy, lack of foresight or size of the carriers?
