Hi (again)
The fourth and final final airshow that I went to in the USA, for this year anyway, this time to Witchita Falls, Texas, just 10 miles from the state border of Oklahoma and two and a half hours drive from Dallas. For me, the highlight was seeing B-29 Superfortress ‘Doc.’
Parking was on base though some distance from the showground to which we were shuttled to in courtesy buses. General admision is free.
Being a US Air Force Base, security is much tighter so this time I left my backpack (backpacks and large bags are not permited in the showground) in the car and just hung my 80D with my 100-400 lens around my neck and a wide angle lens EFS 10-18 mm lens in my coat with a couple of batteries and a few spare recording cards to ready my entrance. I also brought an ultra compact folding chair and a couple of empty pastic bags.
I did not bring my 5D Mk IV and 24-105 lens.
I got off the courtesy bus just as the opening ceremony of the airshow was starting. I took a few photos almost immediately before pausing a while for the US National anthem. Then I was on my way to the security check.
Everybody was searched upon entry including emptying of your pockets.
During the extensive US Thunderbirds ground build up to their flying display, I quckly photographed some static, returning briefly to their air display and when they finished, which also marked the end to the show, I returned to the static to photo some other aircraft when there was was less people around.
I left feeling very happy, not just for this show but all the other shows which exceeded my expectations.
