The first Russian rocket powered torpedo was the RAT-52 which as the designation suggests entered service in the early 1950s.
I have heard of wire guidance as an option but never seen it confirmed by official sources.

In the book i have is said that the reason for development of VA-111 is disinformation from USA,so is funny that USA “helped” the USSR.
Shkval is used in project 671RTM,949A and 971 submarines.
