Shobdon, Hereford – history ?

Does anyone know anything of the history of Shobdon airfield in Herefordshire.
I dropped by earlier today and was surprised to find two large-ish hangars and a longer than expected runway.
From doing a quick search on the internet I see it was a glider training base in 1943, but before or after that I am stumped.
If anyone can give any details, or even period photo’s, my curiosity would be satisfied !
