After a rather theatrical vowing about three years ago never to darken the threshold of Kemble ever again, a freebie landing voucher persuaded me – like MacArthur, to return. Glory be ! After a previous nightmare of hi viz vests, taciturn and grumpy ATC, surly and slack jawed cafeteria staff – what a turn around !
ATC so friendly that they had me turning around in the cockpit to see if someone else was with me. Plain directions to park, smiling and friendly cafeteria staff who actually weren’t talking among themselves and offered speedy and efficient service. All for a £7 landing fee for up to a 750 kg a/c. The next tranche is £10 for I believe up to 1500Kg.
I have no shares invested in Kemble neither does my mother work there.

Kemble to welcome in 2014 with 50% cut in landing feesCotswold Airport (Kemble) has shown that it is full of Christmas cheer by announcing a 50% reduction in landing fees from January 2014.
This means that a typical C172 or PA28 will be welcome to land at Kemble for the reduced price of just £10.
Being a licensed aerodrome and a FISO unit pilots will be welcomed by their team of professional staff in the tower and the operations room.
“We all know how expensive it can be to operate your aircraft these days and we relish the opportunity to invite you to come and visit us and see what is regarded to be one of the best general aviation aerodromes in the country.
Located next to the tower, the AV8 restaurant is another reason to visit. Here, you can relax with a meal or a drink in their comfortable surroundings and watch the activities from the southerly-facing sun terrace. Movements regularly include microlights, vintage jets and the occasional large airliner, the latter being quite a sight landing on our 2000mtr runway! With free WIFI access, AV8 can be a great meeting place for your colleagues and friends.”
Cotswold Airport will also be offering discounted fees for circuits, which will give training schools and GA flyers the chance to engage in circuit training at reduced rates. Preferential rates will be available to flying clubs and groups.

To me all aeroplanes look alike. Spitfire/Comcord/Lancaster/Mew Gull/Fiesler Storch – they look all the same. I thought that that was how everyone viewed them.

The Dakota/DC3 is in a hangar. The 727 or it might have been a 737, I don’t much know the difference is/are parked near the eastern end of the airfield. When you write ‘which’, I don’t know what that means.
You don’t know the difference between a B727 and a B737? Apart from the nose section there is a lot that’s different between the two. 🙂

Didn’t see any sign of a wrecker ball in operation.

Caff, clean, bright and welcoming – and busy. Lots of ‘heavies’ around, 747, 727s, 146s, and a Dakota.
Nice to find an airfield that gives cause for a positive report. That’s one for me to keep in mind. Mind you I could probably drive to Kemble from home in the time it would take me to get to the airfield and fly there as I have to drive 45 minutes in the opposite direction to get the aircraft.

I did forget to mention that, on paying the landing charge, I was presented with two vouchers for complimentary hot drinks. Maybe it was an act of pity as I looked like a forlorn and impecunious old git.

Looked like a title for bad news, glad it was the opposite. Any demolition in progress?
