Sorry I have not been on here for a while but can anyone tell me if there is a Shoreham Aeromart this coming weekend (29th Sept). I have searched around the interweb and it appears it is no more…..? Is that correct?
Many thanks

I’ve had stalls at Brooklands on two occassions, I’ve enjoyed the day meeting and talking to people. I haven’t had much success in selling there as the majority of people in attendance appear to be car enthusiast, which is understandable giving the nature of the venue. However there is so so so much potential at Brooklands from an aviation and aerojumble point of view and sadly I don’t think it is utilised to it’s full potential. The other time I didn’t attend the aerojumble was because I didn’t know it was organised despite living about 10 miles away (no advertising). I have also been a member at Brooklands but gave up my membership as there just didn’t seem to be any invigoration or enthusiasm portrayed on the aviation side of things (my personal opinion only)
Having said all that I have found some nice aviation items at Brooklands aerojumble such as vintage yokes and throttle boxes etc without the need to fight anyone else off!
Will I attend this year, the answer is yes. Will I have another stall again this year, perhaps not!
Look forward to Shoreham being (hopefully) reborn again.
Enjoy the attendance and discussion on aerojumbles and no handbags at dawn please ladies and gents!

I’m working on it…..!!

Use the search function on this board if you don’t believe me.
Actually, following my own advice quoted above, I’ve just used the search function to bring up references to Brooklands aerojumble and even I am surprised at how many times we’ve gone over the same old ground.
I suppose, as a relatively new member, Andywis can be forgiven for not realising just how much criticism this event has attracted in the past.
Ah well, thoughts of Brooklands put aside for now and pondering shall I see the distant glint on the waters of the channel, from the A27 between Brighton and Shoreham, in September this year…?

Interesting comments about Brooklands.
I had some involvement with the first event, and to a lesser extent with the second one. They asked me to help them organise it. First time round they listened (to an extent) to what I told them and what I was able to put in after a mere twenty years organising such events twice yearly and quite succesfully! Next time around they seemed less inclined to follow any advice at all. I wasn’t involved with the third event and didn’t know about it until it was over.
I am convinced that the Brooklands event could potentially be a very good aerojumble venue, especially if they followed what I tried to tell them. They appear not to want it to be, and certainly were not interested in help or advice from somebody who was possibly best placed to assist them in making it work.

But surely the original quote from Brooklands was
“The right crowd, and no crowding”

Rather than make snide and sarcastic remarks
You’ll find I’ve made similar remarks about the Brooklands Auto/Aerojumble in other threads, and rightly so in my opinion, having attended all but one of them (car broke down on that occasion).
I’ve described the event as being “organised by the members, for the members.”
Advertsing it on their web-site, but not in the aviation press seems to fit in with my belief, wouldn’t you agree?
True, I’ve seen large ads for it in classic car journals but I’ve never seen a similar ad in Flypast or Aeroplane Monthly, not even a mention in the “What’s on” columns.
And the number of fellow aerojumblers who respond to comments about it with the likes of…
“I didn’t even know about it!”
…confirms all the above to me.
Speaking as probably one of the most enthusiastic aerojumblers still around, I personally wouldn’t bother attending the Brooklands ‘jumble if it didn’t almost synch with the War And Peace Show the following week: it simply wouldn’t be worth my time, money and effort to get down to it.
I think you’ll find, Andywis, that my “snide and sarcastic remarks” have actually done more to raise the profile of this event amongst aerojumblers, than anything the “committee” has achieved over the last few years. Use the search function on this board if you don’t believe me.
Now, in true internet fashion, I suppose I have to type…
rant over! 🙂

Flypast do pretty good deals on advertising at the the moment.

…and what happens if you ‘don’t’ happen to look on the Brooklands Events diary?
Surely advertising an event in as many ways and places as possible outside of its own area would bring it to the attention of more people, and therefore make it more popular and viable… would it not?

Shoreham aeromart
Rather than make snide and sarcastic remarks,
“”Brooklands Sunday July 18th
(but please promise not to tell anyone: they don’t like Joe Public finding out about “The best kept secret in aerojumbling”.)””
people should read the Brooklands Museum “Events” page on their website and see that the Aerojumble IS advertised. Or does they require/expect a personal invite…

Hi
Now that does give me food for thought:D
After shoreham even with the cheap prices, I would only have cash left for one pastie.
I would hate my excess baggage bill on the return flight..
cheers

Jerry
Then you should organise a week or so back here in September….the Shoreham Aeromart (possibly!), the National Archives and as many pasties as you can stuff down your throat with the money you have left after Shoreham! All do-able in a week!!

Hi
aeromart / aerojumbles, one of the few things I miss since emigrating.
plus easy access to the pro/na and dewdney pasties.
cheers
Jerry

Thanks, Andy. I’ve jumped in quick before it fills up again!
I was in Eastbourne Reference Library last month looking at the file relating to Wilmington and I don’t remember seeing the photos in that – but it was late in the day, I was wet and tired and conscious that the car park, in which my car was parked, would be locked if I didn’t make haste in the library and return to the car park pdq!
Apologies to all for the thread creep maintenance. I’ll go away and occupy myself elsewhere on Pebsham & Wilmington matters!

Space created! It keeps filling up.
I saw your recent posts about Wilmington etc and had meant to reply but can add very little although my parents did have some photos they took there in the 1930’s. I loaned them out, and they then ended up (somehow!) with Eastbourne libary.
But I digress. Thread creep!

Andy, I’ve tried to send a PM to you but your inbox is full to capacity again (you must be a very popular man). When you have a moment, could you create some space there and let me know.

Air Ministry
Thanks….and in box cleared.
By: Arabella-Cox - 13th March 2010 at 13:42
It is under active consideration.
Glad to hear that Tangmere1940, although the mere thought of the 280 mile schlepp down there still fills me with dread!
I’ve responded to your pm.*
*Inevitably, your message folder is full!

Newark Events
Thanks for the prompt Air Ministry – how could I forget the one alongside Cockpit-Fest. As per previous posts from now on all stalls will have to be pre-booked – no more just turning up to sell. The dates for this are June 19th & 20th 2010.
After all the efforts this week to address the ‘revised rules and procedures’ I’ve lost track of things a bit!! 😮
If Newark’s new guidelines work without too many issues – hopefully there might be another Indoor event at a date to be confirmed in the autumn!

Never say never!
Oddly enough, and by complete coincidence to the re-emergence of this thread, I have been asked to consider running the event again this September. This is despite my recent pronouncements that I would not bother again in future – not least of all because of the radium/instrument issue.
It is under active consideration. An announcement shortly when I have done all the sums and considered the various problems now associated with such an event. If it is a “go” then I clearly need to decide very quickly.
Air Ministry….you have a PM from me!
