Shoreham airshow this weekend(Sept 15/16)

Anyone going to Shoreham this Saturday? If so, look out for a 1939 Denis Fire Engine, and I’ll be on the back. You wont be able to miss me coz I’ll be the youngest by about 150 years :diablo: Bex

Living within 4 miles of Shoreham and having flown from there on countless occasions, sorry to have missed the chance to meet fellow forumites on my home turf. Not sorry at all to have missed my local airshow.

It has all been said already so eloquently by others but sincere condolences and thoughts are with all touched by this tragedy.

As for the Cherry Lane play park, unless you have a rug rat with you, you might have a problem, where the Sycamore once lay is now a pay as play area and is supervised by “Play area employees”. However, if u explain the reason for being there, ask to borrow a member of staff for a few minutes and dont take pics of any kids you should be alright.

Hi Lee,

A sad day at Shoreham yesterday indeed.

Hi Bex,

Found the Denis a couple of times, but you weren’t with her on either occasion, so I couldn’t say hello. 🙁

I might beat you to the sycamore playground in Crawley as my office is at Gatwick, so if I get a chance this week I may try and find the place in question, but I’m in Guernesy Tues, and in Notts on Weds, so you’ll probably beat me to it. Maybe see you there – we’ll be easy to spot the only nutters taking photos of the long grass!

Cheers on this very sad weekend
Paul F

Hi Paul,

I think you might have visited the engine when I was given my induction of the “SHoreham Pint” by the other members. On arrival the engine is parked and a bee line for the Spitfire Trailer is made and a pint is had by all. The only other occasion when I wasnt there was, in the lav. Typical, a big bright red fire engine, and I still miss fellow forumites LoL

Hi Lee,

A sad day at Shoreham yesterday indeed.

I have just downloaded from my camera chip a very similar photo of you to that from TempestNut – but looking almost straight at me as you rolled out after landing. Drop me a pm with your email addy and I’ll send it to you later this week. Also got a couple of long range shots of you on short finals – again, will send those if you are interested.

Just got home (I tried waving to as many people as I could as we left – even got a big standing wave from DJ Chris Evans and the Black Cats!). That indeed be me – in the back. Any chance of a high-res copy? PM me if poss.

Glad you liked the arrival – a bit spirited due to having to wash off some speed and height in a hurry after holding to the North. A fanastically smooth trip down in glorious conditions.

But of course, as has been said so much already, a very sad day indeed. I didn’t actually witness the crash myself thankfully but our sincere condolences indeed go to Brian’s family. A period of silence was observed by the pilots in the morning briefing and of course by all those who attended the show later on. RIP

Bex

PS: Can u tell the Sea Hawk pilot, that it was the first time Id ever seen one airbourne and he REALLY made my day.

The Seafire will be arriving tomorrow (Saturday) morning – my first job of the morning is to help push it out of the hangar! We (Chipmunk) should be there about 1130ish.

Miles at Shoreham

If you worked for F.G.Miles Ltd at Shoreham between 1952 and 1962 look me up at the Shoreham Airport Historical Association Visitor Centre (Saturday only).

I’ll be there all going well. I’ll look you up if I spot the engine. Looks like it will be a nice show and the weather looks good as well. Spotted the B25 flying east along the coast this afternoon and what looked like a Griffon Spitfire (Seafire) yesterday.:D

They ‘overnighted’ at Shoreham for Airbourne a few weeks ago.

But not for Shoreham Airshow itself. They will join an impressive lime up of civilian Spitfires and Hurricanes.

As to your p.s., just wait until Willip26 gets back from holiday!

p.s. did you take the photograph of the Cherry Lane Adventure Playground where the fuselage of the Sycamore used to be?

LoL I must admit Willip has got a fine sense of humour 😀 As for Cherry Lane, my poxy sister has been in hospital and has just about managed to muck any plans Ive had recently so once she decides to stop bein daft and start being well again I can nip over there and grab a few shots.

Shoreham Airport

Dont wish to seem rude or upset anyone, but the idea behind this particular thread was just to let fellow forumites that if they wanted to say Hi Id be at Shoreham on Saturday, and how to find me and that I would NOT be there on Sunday. Bex

P.S: As the title has been changed, if anyone wishes to use this thread to discuss Shoreham in anway shape or form, please feel free to natter away. 😀 Bex

Overnight Cat

Just been looking at the airport webcams it appears that G-PBYA is parked on the ramp behind the RAF Tucanos . Does the cat often pitch up the night before at UK airshows?

I’m going tomorrow Bex, I’ll look out for you.

Looking forward, looks like a good lineup and I’ve not been to an airshow since Biggin Hill, so it’ll be good.

There may well be three hurricanes on the ground, but the Vacher Hurricane is unlikely to be able to fly after incurring Propellor damage at Shoreham during Eastbourne Airshow. It’s currently hangered with Real Flying Company/FAST Helicopters.

Having recently had the opportunity to crawl all over her, that’s a real pity!

What happened?

Saturday 15th

As the thread title has been changed, I just wanted to clarify that I will only be at Shoreham on the 15th and look forward to meeting any fellow Forumites that will be there. As I have not got my uniform yet, I will be wearing a green flight suit & black baseball cap so I will be easy to spot not only due to being the youngest LoL
