I understand that the 25 Sealand aircraft that were built, were sometimes referred to as the Sealand 1 through 1N, while the Sealand 2 (S.B.2 by Short and projected with two Alvis Leonides radials and slightly larger overall dimensions) was not realized. The Sealand 3 was known to Short as S.B.7 and in fact a Sealand 1 from which the u/c had been removed.
However, can anyone explain (or confirm) that production aircraft were delivered as Sealand 1 through Sealand 1N. Was this system of naming dependent on the customer or where there significant differences?. Were the aircraft for the Indian AF completed by Short with the small round windows, or was this a later modification done in India?
Finally, did the S.A.5 designation ever apply to the Sealand or was this just a project.
Thanks in advance for any info that comes up!

My thanks to wieesso and NewForest for the very useful info on the Sealand!
What I can still cannot figure out is why the apparent system of naming production aircraft as Sealand 1A though 1N was used (The Sealand 1 was the prototype?). Another puzzle to me is that the pure flying boat Sealand 3 (S.B.7) is sometimes also referred to as the Sealand 1M
Thanks again!

‘Were the aircraft for the Indian AF completed by Short with the small round windows, or was this a later modification done in India?’
Guess it was a later mod.
