On a recent visit to Redhill Aerodrome I spotted an aeroplane hulk in the corner of a hangar, mouldering away and in sad decline. Investigating, I discovered it was a Short Scion and after a few phone calls had put the Medway RAeS in touch with the owners and a deal has been set up. Result; Short Scion hulk has now arrived at Rochester for full re-build by the Medway team after the departure of the Defiant to Hendon. I like it when a plan comes together!

Great news that the Medway Raes will now restore this rare bird. I have seen this aircraft over the years stored at Redhill and hats off to the previous owner Alistair who has always had it stored in a hanger safe and dry well away from the harsh weather and out of harms away. Total opposite to the Goodwin sands Dornier project! Good luck Rochester..

Yes the previous owner was good enough to let me take a photo of her and to show me round the Scion when i called in at Redhill a couple of weeks ago to collect something. As DB says Acebell have already done a great deal of work on this aeroplane, and now is a good time for the Medway group to continue with its revival.
Glad to hear she’s safely arrived at Rochester.

Yes, I was at a recent meeting with Alistair at Acebell Aviation regarding the up-coming Kenley air show when I noticed it. Talking to ‘Chalkie’ it was clear that the project had faltered and was going nowhere. A great job had been done in saving her, anyway, but it was pleasing to put the Medway people onto it and to have been able to get people talking. It especially significant that it is going back to Rochester, pretty much Short’s ancestral home. Lewis Deal called me a couple of weeks ago to let me know that everything had been done and dusted and she would shortly be back to Rochester. I’m pleased she is now ‘home’.

She had been for sale for a good while in the hands of Acebell. Acebell did a large amount of work in bringing her back to something recognisable aided by her other owner. She has the remains of wings and sundry other parts so with the fullness of time a complete machine should emerge!
Its a great result to hear that she has finally sold -Alastair White has looked after her very well for a long time and she was overdue an injection of time and money . Hopefully it might persuade the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum to do something meaningful with theirs!
In terms of ‘ZF’ -she is undoubtedly the last surviving Pobjoy built aircraft .

And this is how it would have appeared when it was exported to Sierra Leone.

Great news, a medal to that man!! Now two engines required for a complete revival.

Oh well done! Take it that the aircraft is G-AEZF. A better future awaits now thanks to your actions. I’m sure the restorers will do a great job.
