What do we think?
As its already used on equipment and vehicles, I wouldn’t see a problem

The original spinner from the ‘Spirit of St. Louis’ had a ‘swastika’ painted on the inside…
…I think this was painted there as a Native American good luck symbol.
By: mike currill - 9th March 2008 at 19:29
I understand it was also used by Native Americans (Indians).
Yes it was.

Could be. I amended my original post when I remembered Buddhist* & ancient European usage of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was used elsewhere. I can’t swear to it, but I think I remember the Hittites using it. Not personally, mind you. 😀 I’m a little younger than that.
*How could I have forgotten that, however briefly? I’ve seen it in Japan more recently than anywhere else.

Ancient, Indian, Hindu – but used by non-Hindus as a good luck symbol.

I did hear many years ago the Nazi swastika is actally the mirror image of a religious(?) symbol that means good luck.
Is this true or was I fed bull?
It’s not a mirror image. The original symbol is used both ways round. Ancient, Indo-European. I’ve seen it on buildings in the old Jewish quarter of Cochin, over the doors. One at each top corner of the door, facing inward. Glazed tiles, put up by the Jewish owners of the buildings, long before Hitler gave a good symbol a bad image.
Common decoration on Buddhist temples in Japan (including post-WW2 – they didn’t take much notice of what the Nazis did with it) & Hindu temples in India. The Japanese got it from India, along with Buddhism.

Yes that they do! and yes they should! 😉 :diablo:
LoL. They are the “Trophies”. I can’t see HM pinning those on yer chest.
I’ve got a depleted Uranium projectile somewhere, it was a door stop, I think I left it at an ex employers.
As for the VC, surely there must be another Sebastopol cannon lurking in somebodies museum that we can plunder. And, the cannon was Chinese made!!! LoL at my comments at the Chinese making nothing but accurate shyte in another thread.
Is the German Iron Cross steeped in any tradition as to what it is made of?

Oh, it’s a joke…and I’m not getting it.
India. Did you not say once that you’d been? The health education in India is the worst in the world. Apart from a few select areas in the major cities. Hygiene in India is worse than “Deep” Africa. And I’ve worked in both places.
Singapore and Malaya, still a lot of human rights issues there, but is improving more so than others. Probably because of massive British involvement in that development.
South Africa. Right, that has got to be the most ridiculous place you could have mentioned. The place is going backwards as fast as China is expanding. It’s the yank empire now, it’s their turn in the barrel.
I wonder if the subjects of that empire would prefer the brits to be in charge. They need to be lead because most of these places could not rummage an education system good enough to produce a governing body without the help of the west.
Mind you, nor can GB, given that maybe one or two of the 647 MP’s have an ounce of decency or honesty.
Oh dear.

Go and argue the virture of imperialism with the subjects of it, otherwise,
India
Singapore
Malaya
South Africa

Because the VC is made of bronze not steel?
By: jbritchford - 7th March 2008 at 17:10
There’s only enough metal left from the Canon to make about another 50 anyway.
Once this has run out, why not melt down the barrel of one of the artillery pieces captured during the falklands conflict, or an ex-german ww2 gun?

I dont have any issues either, the cross always looks kinda sexy in a menacing way on the Tornado!;)

Name one that’s improved since throwing us out. Genuinly improved, in morals, education, health etc. Do not count business growth, money has no flag and will go where the labour is cheapest so naturally poor countries will financially grow but as a nation, may not.

Whilst the German state and people may have a reluctance to engage in conflict beyond their own borders I can assure you that their soldiers are fine and brave men who can be relied upon by their allies.
I would certainly not argue with you on that point, like I said earlier their government won’t allow them to be involved in situations where their actions might be deserving of such an award. I was having a pop at the politicians not the forces. Mind you under the circumstances our own government could learn something from that.

I would not go around saying that, especially in most countries in Africa, or the Indian sub-continent.

My surprise is not at the re-institution of the Iron Cross (which has origins going back to 1813) but that the Victoria Cross has not been banned as too redolent of our evil Imperial past.
There’s only enough metal left from the Canon to make about another 50 anyway.
What do you suggest…..
Elizabethan cross?
Blair Cross?
Gordons Gong?
Leave it as the Vicky, it reflects a time when the world was managed correctly. If only we’d not destroyed artifacts of the countries we ran.
