I’ve only recently found the R/C section of Key Publishings forum, and noticed that this section has very few threads, so decided to start one.
Let’s see your scale R/C models here, any size, any scale, but must be scale.
Here’s some photo’s of the four scale airplanes I’ve been flying over the last 12 years.
Starting off on VE Day 1994, my first P-47D Thunderbolt, a scratch built 1/6 scale model, spanning 6ft 9in, weighing 18 pounds and powered by a Zenoah 38cc petrol engine. Finished in 78th FG colours. Two years later, it was badly damaged while a friend was flying it after the elevator signal wire broke.
The model was rebuilt into a silver finish and flew on until 1999 when it was sold.
The replacement aircraft was another Thunderbolt, this time the extended root and clipped wingtip P-47N which first flew Easter day 1999. Again 1/6 scale, spanning 6ft 11in and powered by a 3W-40cc engine giving over 1HP more power than the G38 in the old ‘bolt. This one weighed 21 pounds.
More shortly…..

Very nice – loving the B-17, v35!
I’ve only got some photos of my FunFighter Spit, which isn’t really scale, although I do have some of a Mosquito that I once had – rebuilt to fly after being broken in two!!

It isn’t finished yet, but it’s coming along nicely.
It’s the Top-Flite 1/8 F4U Corsair Gold Edition with a Saito FA-90R3

The next two models are bombers.
Firstly the Vultee A-35B Vengeance. Once more, scratch built to 1/6 scale and spanning 8 feet, powered by another 3W-40cc engine and weighing 20 pounds. It features scale bi-fold bomb doors and 90 degree twisting retracts. This model first flew in May 2001.
The last and largest model I’ve built is B-17G-BO-1 #42-31035 “Hang The Expense”. Since this is the most complex, I’ll give the most details.
