Dull photos from a very overcast evening – well done to the Old Warden team for their efforts in bringing the Vimy in for a short visit.

Thanks Ronnie – hopefully others like myself will see this and be able to apply it – time to go and play, but on a Riley this time!

I have applied this technique to your Dove image.
You can partly desaturate certain colour channels again (such as yellow in this case!) to maintain a realistic feel.
Have a look:

There are many more ways to add colour to a photo, really. But this is the easiest one.
However what’s not in a picture you can’t get out of it. In this case, the picture will remain rather dull. Boosting the colours too much will make it look unrealistic.
Here’s a slightly more elaborate way for example, which will give really vibrant if not somewhat unrealistic colours:
* open image 🙂
* decrease contrast by 50%
* fade to Luminosity
* press ctrl-alt-shift-L (auto contrast)
If you want to keep your old contrast/exposure “feel”, simply copy this image, reset all changes, paste it on top of the original and set blending model to Colour.
Done! Try it! 😎

Thanks Ronnie – here is the result with 29. I was looking at the colour Spt gets in his shots – now he is a digital freak I will have to treat him to lunch and and seek his advice – thanks again
attached is thr resulting photo plus another of the Martlet.

If you have photoshop, boost the saturation with 40 and you’re practically there 🙂

Thanks Ronnie, am now going to experiment with the Martlet shot to try and put some life into the colours

Good capture of the Spit, Ian! The Anson looks lovely too!
PS. No such thing as dull pics at Old Warden! Always some beauty shots to be made 😉
