Shuttleworth 5th October

Hello all, going to shuttleworth`s 5th of October display.Never been to a shuttleworth display before so a couple of things. What`s the best time to get there for a good spot for photography. Are there many trade stands (or will they all be at Duxford). Cheers in advance,

Thanks Seafuryfan i`m really looking forward to it. Only ever been to the “big shows” before legends etc. The smallest i`ve done would be Elvington i think. Carn`t wait:)

Hi fw190uk,

I hope you have a FANTASTIC time at Old Warden, I really envy you going to your first ever display.

On my first visit many years ago I was amazed at how small and relaxed the airfield was. No walking for miles to the hangars and flight line, you can stay by your car for the display if you want and because you are parked on a gentle gradient, you still get a good view. People take picnics, papers, the works. There is plenty of time to browse the shop and display and you can get really close to the aircraft.

As has been previously said, there are loads of good places to take photos, and the pilots and groundcrew make as interesting subjects as the aircraft (IMHO). Watch out for the veteran cars drive-by.

Your biggest problem might be:

a) To race over to the Hind to watch it being started by the Hucks Starter

or

b) To stay where you are to finish watching the Sea Hurricane display.

Have a great day!! :):):)

I think it has to be the Shuttleworth display for me, never been before and looking forward to taking some nice photos. I have seen the Vulcan many times in the past, but still looking forward to see this majestic plane again in the flesh soon.

Think the Duxford show with the Vulcan (as per TVOC web site) may influence where a lot of people go. The date clashes have been really bad this year and would have thought that Shuttleworth and Duxford would have at least been on different weekends especially for the last show of the year.

Adrian you make yourself out to be a monster

No, just a little off-centre! Ask DamienB about our 1/30th of a second panning contest – his DSLR and lens-cum-artillery-piece vs my Box Brownie! That and a tendency to enthuse in a slightly anal manner…:o

You can also pay a whole extra fiver for a flightline tour and get REALLY close – well worth it, says I.

Hoping to be there myself, but I can’t remember whe I’m supposed to be in Scotland. You”re unlikley to be able to miss me as I’ll be carrying a selection of entirely unsuitable cameras, and probably talking utter c**p…

Adrian

ETA Drat! Will be in Scotland… Still, saves you from the misfortune of meeting me. There are unlikley to be many trade stands in my (limited) experience, but they are usually fairly relevant and you can get Charles Wells Bombardier on site as well. It’s a whole different ethos at OW!
