Shuttleworth Autumn Display

After making a late decision today I decided to go to the show and took my boy to his second ever airshow. Glad I made the decision to go, really enjoyed the day.

Something extra is needed, probably ground, cloudscape or whatever.

Like the stygian blackness of last year’s final OW display, perhaps? The PT22s looked absolutely amazing lit by the sun against a thunderously glowering backdrop. And someone, somewhere, surely clicked their shutter as a lightning bolt ran down the sky behind the Moths taking off, didn’t they?

Thank heavens that individual creativity is STILL the most important thing!

Say it loud, brother! (says someone with serious problems in the creativity department but hey! I can dream!)

Pretty good pictures. A few years ago, pre-digital you would have called them outstanding, but the bar has been raised so high these days. We are so used to , almost blase, seeing utterly sharp, punchy images that fill the frame and technology has put that capability within reach of many people who can afford the kit, though old-fashioned photographic instincts are still required, and not everyone has those.

In my opinion, we now see so many technically great shots of aircraft banking round the corner at OW or wherever, that they no longer really catch the eye. Something extra is needed, probably ground, cloudscape or whatever.

If you stand at exactly the same place as everyone else, at the same time, you will get the same shots as we so often see.

There are variables to introduce, such as-

Exposure
Composition
Location
Shutterspeed

Thank heavens that individual creativity is STILL the most important thing!

Like those a lot! Didn’t get to OW this year, but he’s made a good job against not-very-helpful grey skies.

If he fancies a bit of fakery, I’d have a go at sepia-tinting and vignetting the Roe Triplane shot, and adding “age-related crud” to it. Well-done, it could look very good.

The Chipmunk and the Lysander are both owned by the Shuttleworth Trust and based at Old Warden.

Thanks Ollie for the info. I like the RCAF Chippy Colours looks nice. and that Lysander did that go to airshows with the Bristol Blenheim ?
