Shuttleworth Bristol Fighter

My apologies if I have missed it, but the other day I was told that the Shuttleworth Bristol Fighter has recently been damaged in a landing incident at Old Warden. Any information out there please?

As of last weekend, the engine was back in and ready for running, all that was required are a couple of replacement bracing wires that are on order. It will be moved out of the Workshops in the next week and back into H3 until the new wires arrive so that the winter maintenance schedule can continue on the other aircraft.

Sorry to hear she got damaged but very pleased to know that she has been repaired so quickly. Another great job from the Shuttleworth engineers!

The Bristol Fighter has been inspected and repaired where required by the collections engineers, who are now waiting delivery of a few bracing wires for the fuselage.
The aircraft is now assembled and back on display in it’s usual hanger. Engine runs and systems checks have not yet been completed, and will more than likely take place in the new year, due to other winter projects work which were delayed while the Bristol Fighter repairs were carried out.

Regards,
Dave

To quote “Propswing” – which you stingy lot would have received if you’d joined the SVAS :diablo:

“…..this one has necessitated stripping the aeroplane down to inspect thoroughly for any damage. That means at least, engine out, wings off and the covering removed in several places, just in case. So far, after many hours spent dismantling, significant but reapirable damage has been found in the forward area and undercarriage…….

“…..assuming no further damage is found, the Brisfit should return to full health for next year’s display season……

re

Sad, as she must be the longest a/c to attend shows without a mishap? Hope she gets well soon.

From what i herd it made a heavy landing during the September sunset flying display. She is now in hangar one and undergoing a check and work.
