The long winter is over, Spring is here, that can only mean one thing. The Shuttleworth Collection airshow season is nearly upon us. This year there are a couple of aircraft returning to the air after a period of rest, recuperation and restoration. But first I need to introduce you all (of a fashion) to three important groups of people.

In no particular order (honest guv) we have The Engineers (most of them!)

thanks to Dave Scott for the photo

The Groundcrew aka the pushers and pullers!

And the Pilots

It takes a lot of bodies to shift the heavy aircraft

These three motley groups of people put in hours of work over the winter and every other weekend throughout the summer so that we, the punters, can enjoy so many aircraft displaying at the worlds finest airshow venue. They all deserve our thanks.

As I said earlier, we have a couple of aircraft back in the skies this year. Firstly the Parnall Elf is back

Secondly the ANEC is returning, hopefully there will be a Lympne Trials extravaganza later in the year. Not pictured here is the DH Hummingbird which has test flown recently.

In the workshop, the restoration of the Blackburn Monoplane’s wings is nearing completion

When ready its hoped to fly it at the same time as the Shuttleworth Collections new arrival the Scud II glider.

This will mean that we will be able to see britain’s oldest flying powered aircraft and glider in the air at the same time. Hopefully things will go according to plan (fingers crossed)

In the meantime, here’s a sample of what we can hope to see this year, all we need now is good weather.
