Thanks for that TA, one of my favourite planes of WW2 the Hurricane.

Interesting documentary – without wanting to sound weird, it’s good to hear Jerry Mead’s voice again, too! Very much a part of my childhood airshow memories, was Jerry.

Have Shuttleworth painted another bird strike ‘kill’ under the cockpit yet?
Confirmed 2 kills now painted on.

Thanks for answering that one, Mike. I think my all-time airshow highlight was watching Andy Sephton displaying Z7015 on a blue sky day at Old Warden. It was the perfect routine to show off the aircraft.

The Shuttleworth Hurricane is not approved for aerobatics AFAIK. I have been told that this is due to the non-standard spar mod.

I enjoyed watching this again, a bit of history now as the video is almost 20 years old. According to the video (35:35) the original, rolled steel tail spar has been replaced with a circular spar with webs on the side. This was in accordance with a modification carried out by Cranfield on another Hurricane. I’ve read of some restorers being critical of surveyed restorations when researching their own. Is this the sort of deviation they mean? Would recreation of the original spar make it more authentic? Or is it an approved Hawker mod?

Still flying, much to the chagrin of the Bedfordshire pigeon population.
