The Uk display season kicked off in style at Old Warden yesterday.
Despite a slightly soft ground conditions a full display was flown, although the wind was just slightly too strong for the Boxkite to go beyond extended hops.
Highlights for me were;
A very spirited display from the Sopwith Triplane, Superb precision flying from the Chipmunk and a very graceful display from the visiting Arco operated T33.
In the hangars the newly refabriced Sopwith Pup was carefully kept under wraps, but the Prentice project seems to be progressing well.

‘Kighters’ may not have been their in person, but his spirit still lurks in the back of that old MG.
Too many curries.

I thought that MG could find it’s own way there…
I’m sure it could I just wish it would take me home too. The drive home is the worst part of going to airshows. 🙁

Thanks Robbo,
‘Kighters’ may not have been their in person, but his spirit still lurks in the back of that old MG. It loves that drive to Old Warden so much it keeps frightening the punters away. I may ask the collection if I can hang it up next to the flying flea until Mr K returns.

Lovely stuff Gary, it’s great to get everyone together again. Was it just me, or was did anyone else feel the spirit of Kighters moving amongst us?

Possibly. I too prefer the slightly warmer look.
My screen is balanced pretty ok though (I HOPE!). Being in the graphic arts business, it couldn’t afford screwing up all my colours! 😀
Personal preference may have a lot to do with it too.

Nice pics, but you definitely need to check the white balance on your camera (assuming it’s digital), as there’s a distinct blue hue over all your images. Nothing a bit of Photoshop can’t fix 🙂
It looks fine this end, maybe its your screen, white balance was set on sun setting for most of the day, but I know a lot of people who leave it on cloudy for a warmer end result. The camera was Nikon D100 which is rather rare amongst all these Canon users on this forum, maybe its just that.

Thanks Nial.
Darren I see that Nikon has missed the boat with the release of the D50 and D70s. Please Nikon upgrade the old D100. Hope to see you next weekend, not sure what day yet though.

They are both very nice cameras though. The D70S will be out this month but the D50 will be a bit later.

The Hurricane electric starter went U/S, which is why it didn’t fly in the show – I’m not sure why you say it was engine running, although, the Spit was next to it…… Hopefully it’ll be fixed for the next show in two weeks.
Thanks Airbedane,
Sorry for the confusion with the Hurricane, from where I was positioned I thought I saw two props turning, I must go and get my eyes retested.

Hi Gary,
Good to see you at the weekend, and what a great selection of shots. Well done!

God I’m jealous….I LOVE Old Warden…still a month to go till my first show (Corsair Gathering in CT)…then some vacation in and around Washington DC (Udvar Hazy and the other air museum), the USS New Jersey, and then off to Pittsburgh to see family…looking forward to it…
But really miss Old Warden…

Thanks SVAS_volunteer, you’ll all have to get forum badges so we know who’s who.
A last few from OW, to round up a good display albeit a rather familiar one.

Thanks Nick,
The winter is always too long, do you know what happened to the Hurricane in the afternoon, the commentator said something about the starter but the engine was already running!
