Shuttleworth sold out 5 July

Shuttleworth website indicating all gate tickets are sold out…no gate entry except current SVAS members (from 4pm today!)
Traffic will be challenging on Sunday I think.
Hope the Vulcan doesn’t scrub..I predict a riot.

What a vintage Old Warden day. Straight through the gate at 10.10am, easy parking, great weather, except for the gusting wind which kept the WW1s/Edwardians grounded…but a spine tingling Vulcan display. Enormous respect and thanks to Martin Withers for playing to the strengths of the airfield layout…a topside pass round the bend….awesome. In 40 years of attending OW, one of the best individual aircraft displays ever. And the Blenheim and Seafire to cap it…wow.
I agree, the Scout display was beautifully presented and fascinating, can’t wait for the first flight.
Thank you Shuttleworth, for a grand day out.

Rant over – no offense intended to Creaking Door πŸ™‚

None taken. πŸ™‚

And just to be clear I’ve nothing against anybody that follows, supports or enjoys the Vulcan in any way whatsoever; yesterday must have been, possibly, the seventh time I’ve seen it display and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every display and never once has my enjoyment of the Vulcan display, or any part of the other displays, been soured by the presence of others who enjoy seeing the Vulcan displayed.

I didn’t notice much change in the usual Suttleworth crowd; if the ‘Vulcan fanatics’ were there they kept a very low profile and were vastly outnumbered by the grandparents / grandchildren groups.

You weren’t looking hard enough – or maybe we were too well disguised. The biggest Vulcan fanatic in our party of four was wearing a dress and drinking white wine, but that’s pretty normal behaviour for my mum! She shed a tear or two when XH558 finally floated off into the distance.

I can’t help thinking that there’s too much tarring of Vulcan appreciaters going on without enough brushes being used – if anything I think we were more of a party of Chadwick fanatics, Just a pity the Lanc couldn’t have made it 4 if his creations flying at Old Warden yesterday.

As I said above, booking the Vulcan was a master stroke by the organisers and brought lots of new people through the gates and I’d be willing to bet that the place will benefit as a direct result.

For example, I hadn’t appreciated before yesterday that the Shuttleworth Collection’s aim is to preserve aircraft in flying condition – surely something that chimes loudly with a bunch of aviation enthusiasts who have followed the ups and downs of keeping a large triangular shaped money-pit in the sky against a lot of odds for many more years than it was thought possible.

Sorry but I can’t see any reason for negativity. Rant over – no offense intended to Creaking Door πŸ™‚

Another great show in some quite challenging weather conditions; pity that the WWI aircraft didn’t fly (first time I’ve ever known that) but still a great show by any yardstick.

I was completely wrong with my predictions of traffic chaos (although I was in and parked-up by 09:30); the magicians within the Shttleworth team seem to be able to wave a civilising wand over any circumstance.

I wasn’t in the best of health but I didn’t notice much change in the usual Suttleworth crowd; if the ‘Vulcan fanatics’ were there they kept a very low profile and were vastly outnumbered by the grandparents / grandchildren groups.

It was a fantastic show. The ‘family’ Bristol Scout was there with a fascinating selection of display boards documenting key facts about the restoration. To see the original rudder bar and stick in place was skin-tingling, with the aircraft being on the threshold of flying. The flight line walk and talk looked fascinating with Peter Holloway observed chatting to a spell-bound crowd next to the Storch. Perhaps I’ll be in time for that next visit. Go Shuttleworth!

Posted elsewhere in the forum, but after finishing the Sun crossword, emptying my glass of Carling and neatly folding my union flag so I could stow it carefully in the draw with my Lancaster T-Shirts, I had time to post here as well.

My partner and I had a superb day at Old Warden today. It was our first visit there, the appearance of the Vulcan meant that we couldn’t miss the airshow, but I imagine like many first-time visitors today, we’ll be back very soon to enjoy the collection when we’ve got more time to spend there in the hangars.

Getting the Vulcan to display there was inspired by the show’s organisers because I think it’s brought a new crowd of people through the gates and enabled them to show off Old Warden and the unique aircraft there. It’s well worth a visit if you’ve not been there yet.

Anyway, the full gallery is here: https://flic.kr/s/aHskc5Xm9n

What a superb day today. How wonderful it was to see the Blenhiem at OW, great to see the Seafire XVII again, and I never get tired of seeing and hearing the Hind and Demon displaying together. The gathering of WWI vehicles was an added bonus, as was the newly built Bristol Scout C, and the chance to talk with one of it’s constructors.

Oh, I nearly forgot. There was this rather noisy triangular shaped thing that put on an excellent display too.

LOL ,and cry in despair at some of the postings on this thread.
Shuttleworth – no Vulcan rarely sells out— possibly occasionally but all the times i’ve been not normally sold out.
Shuttleworth with Vulcan sells out and some people who i believe promised to eat their hats if it flew again [ still waiting for photos] cry and throw toys out of pram.
Win for Shuttleworth, can’t be many days when they get a really good following–[note their aircraft are very dependant on weather conditions], win for the aircraft enthusiasts who may see the beauty behind Shuttleworth for the first time and may come back to another display.
I don’t read daily newspapers either —would childish jibes like this be aimed at people who queued up to see 2 Lancs ,or yet another Spitfire.

I thought it was an excellent show. Great variety just a shame it was too windy for the WW1 and Edwardian types. Just brilliant to see the Seafire XVII fly again

I’ve never seen so many Vulcan and Lancaster caps and T-shirts all in the same place as I did today. “Roll up, roll up, all aboard the bandwagon!”
