Hi – I’m an occasional visitor to Old Warden, so it was good to see recent photos of progress on AR501 – it is clearly a long job but the results are speaking for themselves – the quality of work appears outstanding!
I’ve seen the wings are carefully stored – something I was wondering for a while – I assume the wings are next for refurbishment?
Anyone close to the work have any info on timelines for completion? Can’t wait to see her back in the air.:)

The wings will indeed be next. As for time to flight – depends on the wings and of course no unplanned extras for the engineers as the season passes. Will be well worth the wait.

Quick update:
Managed to have an hour nosing around Shuttleworth yesterday morning – taking time off work to look after my 4yo son.
Lots of activity in hangar 1 – notably the Polikarpov with its wings on – looking rather good. She sure is a big old thing.
Anyway, the nice chap working on the Polikarpov confirmed that for the Spitfire the wings are next, after the fuselage – and the work will take probably another couple of years.
A long time, but will be worth it – I think this AR501 will be better than factory fresh and with as much original as possible when she is done.
Superb work!
