I see the Wildcat has a new owner from GINFO thread? Is this just for the restoration or has she moved on?

Ah, thank you. I now understand. I had thought that the point being made was that Sopwith Snipe and/or the De Havilland Dragonfly were owned and being offered for sale by the Shuttleworth Trust, rather than being suggested for purchase by the Trust with the presumed proceeds of sale of the Grumman Wildcat.
Does anyone know if and when the Shuttleworth Trust will be making a statement on this subject as Mustang, in his/her post of 13 May (post #23), said he/she had been advised would be made?

They would also need to persuade someone to let them loose with access to their substantial bank balance; not only to cover the cost of making it flyable again, but also for a new hangar to keep it in.
Spoilsport LOL.
At least it would give them something to spend the funds raised from the sale of the Wildcat on….:)

Now if only they could persuade the RAFM to let them loose with the repro Vimy in store at Stafford :eagerness:.

The Vimy replica did display at Old Warden, when in the green scheme representing Ross & Keith Smith’s G-EAOU. It flew in formation with the Bristol Fighter.

That photo was taken at Woburn, not Old Warden.
Yes, I was aware….thks. See msg No: 68.

2005………….http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1236083/
As I recollect flew in on Saturday and departed on Sunday. Apparently the CAA would not permit a display….. (spoil sports, but what’s new?!!))

Apologies for taking the thread even further off-track: did the Vimy replica ever fly into/out of Old Warden? Is there enough room for it (or hypothetical future Vimy) to operate from there?
Yes she flew in ( sedately). I was there to take some photos but can’t place them at the moment. She did not display IIRC but I think refueled and left (slowly)

SADSACK If you mean the Vimy shaped assemblage of modern materials and modern engines now on display at the Brooklands Museum, No, No, No, No, No, and once again No.

Cannot answer your question definitively but the Vimy replica did land and take off from Woburn which is a lot “tighter” than Old Warden. It was visitor to The Moth Club rally…………

I would love to see the Q6 join the collection… the ultimate acquisition would have been the Vimy.
By: Orion - 19th May 2016 at 17:38
I would be delighted if any or all of these aeroplanes were added to the collection.
By: markb - 19th May 2016 at 14:02
Simply idle wishlist speculation! Personally I’d rather the Shuttleworth concentrated on inter-war aircraft, and the Dragonfly and Q6 would be perfect additions – especially as they need some bigger, more stable aircraft to display when it gets breezy. There are plenty of Warbird organisations. Keep the Shuttleworth unique, please!
By: ozplane - 19th May 2016 at 13:02
No, but the implication is that perhaps they could be purchased with the proceeds of the Wildcat sale.
By: avion ancien - 19th May 2016 at 12:44
Please forgive my ignorance, but does the Sopwith Snipe and/or the De Havilland Dragonfly belong to the Shuttleworth Collection? If not, what is their relevance to this thread?
By: markb - 19th May 2016 at 12:27
So is the Blue DH90 Dragonfly G-AEDT
Now you’re talking. Buy that and the Q6. How good would that look in formation?
