Although I’ve already mentioned this, it’s buried within one of the other great Shuttleworth threads running at the moment.
I therefore thought it worth giving this particular bit of news a thread of its own.
Looking at the poster of the Oct 7th Shuttleworth airshow it would appear that this will mark the return of the DH88 Comet to the display circuit:
http://www.shuttleworth.org/tickets/event-details.asp?ID=163
I’m positively fizzing with exitment at this lastest bit of news from Shuttleworth.
Seriously guy’s, pace yourselves. I’m not sure I can cope with all of these Christmases at once . . . what am I talking about, of course I can!
You guy’s deserve all the plaudits you get. More power to your elbow Shuttleworth!

[QUOTE=paul178;1933317]I think the advertising for this event should be reported to trading standards.
So you would be happy to take legal action against an organisation whose staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly over many years to keep this wonderful collection of historic aeroplanes in the air for our enjoyment, and at a time when they have already had such an awful year, with revenue loss through having to cancel several shows, and losing one of their pilots in a fatal accident.
What a great friend vintage aviation has in you!

What is the difference from some organisation advertising a concert with say Madonna and Take That and you end up getting Susan Boyle and Val Doonican instead!
As R Langham said, why don’t you report them?
Then you could have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you put the boot into a charitable trust, one of who’s primary stated aims is educating young people?
Perhaps if you really get a result, the collection might have to lay off an apprentice to cover the legal costs–I expect you’d enjoy that.
But seriously, has it ever occurred to you in your ‘infinite wisdom’ that the additional workload associated with the unpacking, assembling and testing of three aeroplanes from New Zealand, plus the disruption caused by engine problems on existing aircraft earlier in the year may have put work on things like the Comet back somewhat?—and that the intention to fly the Comet may have been genuine?
Indeed the Comet has been actively worked on as recently as last week—in the hope of that intention being achievable.
Of course instead of sitting on the side lines carping, you could offer your services as a volunteer. That way you could have maybe some influence on events. You might even have the pre-requisite skill set to help complete the work on the Comet.
However and sadly, at this point, I expect the usual raft of excuses—Mother-in-law has to be pushed round the municipal gardens in her bath chair, the journey to involves a 35 minutes train journey (yes, we have actually had that one) or the cat needs lard applying to it boils, etc etc etc.
Should you wish to volunteer, please contact me by PM.
Andy.

May I draw your attention to #8 and #10 on this thread and the dates posted,
Despite that it was advertised as a flyer as late as yesterday! @ duxfordhawk I think you have summed it up rather well.

I must admit I am very miffed on this one, I always felt the Comet returning to the skies for this show was going to be a huge task. I accepted it was possible the comet would not be ready to go.
What has upset me is that both the RE8 and Albatros were advertised for this event, and on this news I have booked a day off work losing a days pay in the process to be there. I was not able to make the uncovered show so really was looking forward to seeing them at this show.
I will still go as its a lovely place on a fine autumn day, and I do understand that sometimes aircraft do not attend, I have done shows all my life but I do feel we have been a bit conned here.

I would think the small print stating that non of the planes are guaranteed due to operational/weather/availability may cover things.

The Comet is sadly not flying. But aside from all these `old bi-planes` what about the jets? Are they still flying? Jets are good.
I like bi-planes too, but a Hunter or two will be fun.

Whilst I understand the issues with the Comet, I am a little miffed that the Albatros and RE8 will now not be flying after they were on the bill, having been unable to attend due to a commitment last Saturday. While I assume this is down to the RAF museum, I have now missed any opportunity of seeing them fly, as I guess have a good few others.
Either way I will still go on the 7th, just a little disappointed.

Quite – organisers do their best to provide a show that will appeal to as many people as possible, and I am sure they believed there was every chance of those three aircraft appearing.
However, as we dont know the reasons behind the decision, it is rather unfair to criticise.
It will be A Good Show. Its Shuttleworth. ’nuff said.

If you feel so strongly about it then, why don’t you? I’m sure Shuttleworth, who for all you know could have genuinely believed the aircraft would have appeared until recently, would appreciate it, and you’ll feel really good about yourself

I notice they have changed their advertising now. Will they offer a refund to those who specificly wanted to see the original aircraft advertised and who have already purchased a ticket?
