I was absolutely delighted to read in ‘Pilot’ magazine that Shuttleworth are finally getting rid of that awful Norwegian scheme on their Gloster Gladiator and stripping it down and repainting it in an RAF scheme. Also the same is being done with the SE-5a. If you go to the Shuttlworth Collection’s website, there are a series of photos showing the present state of the Gladiator during its major overhaul here:

Does anyone know what schemes these will appear in?
I am hoping the Gladiator will revert to its correct serial of L8032 and possibly appear in 73 Squadron’s blue/yellow chevron markings, but there was talk of a Malta camouflage scheme?

two and two makes 82 doesn’t it or perhaps two and two makes 73
either somebody’s not sub editing correctly or Shuttleworth have acquired another Glad…………….:diablo:

The Glad’s now sporting some very nice roundrels.
You can cut all this ‘cloak and dagger’ stuff out as Aeroplane Monthly’s article has revealed all – Shuttleworth HAVE accepted my suggestion to them in my post #3 (all rush to have a look….;) )

Though silver is the base coat for camouflage ……. 😉

It’s just silver at the moment. It’s on public view in hangar one for all of those who’d like to see it.
So Chris Morris’s theory about it receiving a camouflage scheme has obviously been changed. I’m pleased about that, so what squadron markings are they going to apply?

[QUOTE=Alex Crawford;1086114]Malta has a Sea Gladiator, one of the famous trio. Apparently its getting a complete set of wings at some point in the future.
When i was at the Malta air museum. At the beginning of 2001 there was a set of wings and empennage for the sea gladiator which had come from Norway.

Anyone know the true identity of Yeoviltons Sea Glad? Is it N5518 that was lost on Lake Lesjaskog in April 1940?

Yeovilton are rebuilding one.

Yes a 73Sqn. scheme would look superb on the Glad. It realy does need to be back in a 1930’s RAF scheme. Whilst the Malta scheme is nice it would be inaccurate as “Faith, Hope and Charity” were Sea Gladiators.

Swastikas are legal on static aircraft in Germany, but not flyers. Several are displayed in full markings at museums like DTM and Gatow, so seems a bit odd they are asking other countries to ban it, more B.S reporting no doubt……or maybe just typical government, left hand doesn’t know what the right is doing:)

Does anybody know what happened to the proposal (mentioned on the radio news last week) initiated by Germany that the swastika should be banned on an EEC wide basis?
The Boche come up with that old chestnut every so often and it sells a few newspapers to the outraged.
That’s why the decals in a lot of model kits come with the swastikas in halfs or bits or even diamonds to circumvent what already is law in Germany. About twenty years ago the EU were talking about banning all toys associated with war including plastic kits.
That’d obviously stop all future wars.

Maybe they should be reminded of the very dangerous practice of erasing visual symbols of history…
Nicely put.

The PC crowd must already be in hysterics if that’s the case. There are currently swastikas on the Jungmann, Primary Glider, Bestmann, Stieglitz, Klemm and Storch. They’re accurate period markings.

There’s nothing but a large swastika on the Storch!:)

Anything other than pre-war RAF and I think a lynch mob may be heading to hangar one…
