SIA A380 to Hong Kong

Singapore Airlines said yesterday it will start using the Airbus A380 superjumbo on its Hong Kong route starting next month.

SIA, which operates five daily non-stop flights between Singapore and Hong Kong, said the A380 will replace an existing Boeing B777-300ER service.

SIA, the launch customer for the superjumbo, currently flies the world’s biggest passenger plane from Singapore to Sydney, London, Tokyo and Paris.

The giant plane can carry up to 853 passengers but SIA has chosen a setup with a maximum 471 seats.

SIA currently has eight A380s in operation, while it also has a firm order for another 11 and options for six more, the carrier said.

one of my sources say SQ is itching to start the 380 on DEL from the very next day when the correct infrastructure is in place.

I’d say the A380 would be perfect for that run with the size of the Indian population in Singapore!!!

No doubt being used to free up another 777 to replace the mighty 747s that are being slowly retired. Shame to see them leave the fleet. Out of interest i notice the article states the 380s will be replacing 300ERs. I thought the ERs were only used on the SQ1 SQ2 routes that stop in HKG en route to/from SFO. The flights that terminate in Honkers are regional configured 200 and 300s.
