Sidcot Suit

Morning all,
Could anyone oblige me with details of where I could buy a replica/good condition original sidcot suit.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer me.

I don’t suppose anyone knows when the type of Sidcot in use in WW1 stopped being produced do they?

Well, I’ve seen B-Type helmets in good nick and with attached bits and bobs go for in excess of 500 notes….;)

Yes….a LOT in excess of £500. Don’t go expecting any change out of £1,000.00 if you want the “attached bits and bobs”. With a nice pair of goggles, D-Type oxygen mask (flat fronted chamois covered BofB period example) and oxygen tube with connector you wont get ANY change out of the £1,000 and will need to stump up a good deal more than that to get the “full set”. If you can find it!

Interesting, I have a very early sidcot suit, can’t remember year, but think its 1939. Type 41 Escape pattern boots, 1938 Leather flying gauntlets – B type helmet etc – what sort of money are we talking for these now – I think I bought the sidcot at a boot sale about 10 years ago for around £10!

You could try David Farnsworth at the Historic Flying Clothing Company:

You are a lucky man with that lot in your possession.

I have two of the khaki type in my collection and one of the blue type.
There is also a green/olive version one of which is for sale on EBay at present.
However beware, I have always found that the green ones tend to fall apart faster than the others.Don’t know why , maybe a difference in manufacturers
The khaki ones appear on Ebay 2-3 times a year.

I have searched and seached for a repro source but there isn’t one.
Finally, I took my original to a custom tailor and she wanted $3000 cn to reproduce one.
They are actually a very complicated piece of clothing when you examine them closely.

Good luck

I have one, original and wartime (dated 1944 IIRC).It has
some light stains here and there, but then again it is 65 years old. Zippers
are in very good condition and it is complete.

Perhaps I might be persuaded to part with it.
PM me to find out.
Cheers

This site shows a recent sale of one:

Maybe booking with them in case one comes in their possession would be a good idea?

Other than keeping an eye open on ebay, as you never know……but in reality, most in not all surviving Sidcots suits are already in the hands of flying clothing collectors, so you will need to establish links within those circles or specialist dealers that have those connections.
I guess you know one wouldn’t be cheap to buy as a result 😮

Not aware of any of the repro specialist making reproductions, as there just wouldn’t be the numbers demand for setting up to make them, not to mention the enormous cost of reproducing one.
