Sierra Leone Airways in the 60s

Can anyone help me? I am trying to establish whether it was a DH 86 Dragon or a DH89 Dragon Rapide which Sierra Leone Airways used in the early 60s and whether this was before or after they used the DH Heron.

Sierra Leone Airways

Jan. Many thanks for your info. I had already identified VR/LAC & LAD but did not remember LAE.
I am trying to find out how they were painted. I believe it was whatever paint job they had before they arrived plus a hand painted sign “Sierra Leone Airways” on the fuselage, but if anything more specific is available I would appreciate your advice

Glasllwch,

At least three DH 89As operated in Sierra Leone;

VR-LAC, c/n 6603 p/i X7436, G-AOZG,
VR-LAD, c/n 6963 p/i TX305, G-AHPU,
VR-LAE, c/n 6827 p/i NR739, G-APKA.

I would assume that at least some of these may have been operated by Sierra Leone Airways.

There was certainly no DH 86 in Sierra Leone during the 1960s, as the last one (G-ACZE?) was written off in Spain in 1957.

During the 1970s, there were three DH 114 Herons in Sierra Leone, and scheduled flights for Sierra Leone Airways as well as for the various mining companies then operating in the country;

9L-LAD c/n 14025, later registered 9L-LAT,
9L-LAG c/n 14019,
9L-LAI c/n 14047.

You may have receive more answers if you post this on the Commercial Aviation forum as well.

Regards,

Jan
