Silver City Lancastrian logo?

Hi all

Can anyone ID the logo on the tail of this Silver City Lancastrian G-AHBW? I assume it’s an early Silver City logo, but does anyone have a sharper/clearer copy?

Any help most gratefully received!

Many thanks in advance.

whats the story on this aircraft?

Info from Aeroplane Monthly, May 1981 (paraphrased for brevity):

Silver City Airways was registered 25/11/46. Bought 3 new Lancastrians from Avro G-AHBW ‘City of London’, G-AHBT ‘City of New York’ and G-AHBV ‘City of Canberra’. They were used to link the UK with mining territories in South Africa and Australia, being based at Langley. G-AGHW was eventually sold to QANTAS (doesn’t say what date), for which see:

Yup, Eagle! Though, it looks like they flipped the eagle on the VStab in the first pic. I wonder if they wanted to keep the bird’s head into the wind?

From What I’ve seen, the old logo appears to be an eagle on top a globe…just have not found a clear enough image to verify! Must have had a very limited, short usage.

Something like this:

Although it doesn’t look much like an eagle! Found it an old copy of Air Pictorial. Thanks for everyone’s help on this, it’s been much appreciated.

First I found two clearer pics of the second (the later) logo:

Will look for the source of the yellow one!

I only found that little pic. Not a real advance!

Martin

Thanks for the 2 images Martin. Looks like the one on the ticket is the one I’m after. Where did you come across that one?

Martin

I’d already found that image, but many thanks for the reply. I’m guessing it would be on a timetable or similar, or perhaps on a close-up photo. I know it’s a bit of a long-shot, but if you don’t ask…
