Silverjet adds Dubai as its second route
Victoria Moores, London (17Sep07, 09:52 GMT, 274 words)UK all-premium carrier Silverjet is to add Dubai as its second route, which it claims will be the first non-transatlantic destination for an all-business airline.
London Luton-based Silverjet will launch daily services between London Luton and Dubai on 18 November with standard return prices starting at £1,099. It will operate from dedicated executive terminals at both ends of the route.
It says Dubai was chosen above several other short-listed destinations due to its rapid rate of commercial development and its strong business ties with the UK.
Silverjet CEO Lawrence Hunt says: “Dubai has attracted large levels of investment and development over recent years to become a globally acclaimed destination for both business and leisure travellers alike.
“With premium air traffic to the Emirate growing at 20% year-on-year, this new route represents an exciting opportunity for Silverjet.”
A second daily frequency will also be added to Silverjet’s original New York Newark route on 23 September.
Hunt says: “We are evaluating options for further new routes and aircraft and believe that the Silverjet product and customer experience is well positioned for exploitation in different markets.”
Silverjet has just taken delivery of its third Boeing 767. Earlier this year it signed a letter of intent with Thomsonfly covering two additional 767s, which are slated for delivery in March 2008.
Recently Silverjet remained quiet on suggestion that it was exploring joint-venture opportunities to give it access to London Heathrow.
Hunt says: “The current plans regarding ‘open skies’ between the UK and the US will provide opportunities for Silverjet and we support these moves. We intend to watch developments carefully and move quickly should opportunities be presented to us.”
