Does anyone have any information on wartime Simmonds fasteners? I’ve come across references to various types – BT1, CG1, EG2 etc. but have no idea what they look like! Can anyone help?
Thanks

It did take a bit of digging for to find it as I knew it was somewhere. I tried AP1086 Sec 28 first but think the copies I have of that are just a little to ‘modern’ to list them (they are dated mid-60’s through 70’s.
I’ll have a further dig around to see if I can find any further information and try and scan the S.D.M. referenced.
Glad it’s going to be of use.

Thanks for asking the question in the first place Elliott as I’ve recently been leafing through an extract of the stirling Vol 3 and was wondering the same thing:)
Thanks Dave for posting that link as it’s got some very useful info in there:cool:

Simmonds Nut equivalents
Not exactly ‘to hand’ but here goes:
Please find a link to a document scanned from the Hunting-Percival Design Office Handbook (last amended in 1965) detailing replacement items for obsolete standards then in force.
Hunting Percival Obsolete Standards
The last 3 pages deal with stiffnuts as well as anchor nuts.
The manufacturer’s designations in the table of the Hunting-Percival Design Standard being translated to manufacturers as follows (courtesy of the Ministry of Supply Air Standard Design Memorandum SDM(A) 36-6) dated 15 Jan 1958
Nyloc= Simmonds Accessories Ltd
Philidas= Whitehouse Industries Ltd
Oddie= Brown Bros. (Aircraft) Ltd
Aerotight= Guest Keen and Nettlefold Ltd
Hope that helps.
Sorry about the scan being upside down……give me spanners anyday!!

Thanks Jeepman, I thought about that, but from experience that might be time consuming. If I don’t get any joy i’ll try them. I hoped someone here might have the answer at their fingertips…
