Sino/US fighter developments under the “Peace Pearl” project

Oh no … once again the next Chinese fighter tread ! 😮

While I was searching for some background information on the Sino-US “Peach Pearl” project of the late 1980’s and especially for some information on the possible powerplant for the early „Sabre II“ and „Super-7“ fighter updates for the J-7 I found another project mentioned:

“a delta-winged fighter designated the F-10, and the subsequent development of the more advanced F-12”.

It suggests that the F-12 might use technology from the 1976 transfer of one or more MiG-23s from Egypt, but it might be an original design, and be powered by two Spey turbofans.

These three [edit: engines] were often mentioned as contenders, I might add, for a variety of lightweight fighter competitions at the time, including the Gripen, the Lavi, India’s LCA, and Yugoslavia’s Novi Avion.
At one point, China was reportedly contemplating a new “clean sheet” design, based around one of these three engines, sometimes referred to as the “F-12” in the Western press.

Regarding the first source from Air International I just thought this “J-12” is the usual misunderstanding / mistranslation referred for the delta- and VG-designs based on the MiG-23, which finally came out as the J-9 and Q-6, especially because it’s dated 1978.

But as this is actual the second time this week, a J-12 was mentioned in connection to the US I want to ask if there were really some considerations for a “clean sheet” development with US assistance beyond the J-7/J-8 updates under “Peace Pearl” ??

Does anyone have some more information regarding this type or is this just some wishful thinking ??
