Obviously this didn’t make the front page of any of the papers today, not being as newsworthy as the latest in the Peter Andre Katie Price marriage break-up, or even the ‘story’ that somebody deliberately drove his Rolls-Royce into a supermarket.
It didn’t even feature on the BBC Radio 2 news that I heard this morning, although news that the third man to voice Mickey Mouse had sadly passed away did make the cut!
I think climbing Everest when you are 65 years old, after suffering a heart-attack during your first attempt, not to mention the fact that you were the first man to cross both polar ice caps would have been worth a bit of news coverage.

Anyway, from me, congratulations Sir! 🙂

The piece about it in today’s paper says he suffers from vertigo,so I hope he didn’t look down when he was standing on top of the world !

Fantastic effort, and glad he made it after his two previously unsuccessful attempts…..how many other 65 year olds would have gone back for another crack ?
By co-incidence, have just finished reading his autobiography ” Mad ,Bad and Dangerous to Know ” – a term bestowed upon him by his late wife’s disapproving father !! Worth a read, even if just to understand what he ( and his fellow adventurers ) have endured to complete some of their feats.

It was featured on the BBC’s morning programme while I was having my motel breakfast. As you say,an old-fashioned British hero, and so modest .
