Sir Terry Wogan RIP

As the title says…RIP Terry!

Seems like he was everywhere when I was growing up. A class broadcaster in my opinion….a true professional.

Steve

We none of us did. There are some very small-minded little people giving to venting their envious and snide little digs. Very, very sad that they share this forum with decent people.

Hi Moggy..

As the OP of the thread, feel free to close it if you see fit.

I didn’t think it would be quite as sour as it has been!

Best regards;
Steve

What is wrong with some people, if you want to have a dig go and start another thread and leave this one for tributes.

My point, which you seem to have ignored for one reason or another, is that he could have done his beloved Children in Need work for free.

Your point is pointless.

He wasn’t paid by C.I.N for appearing, he was paid by the BBC and then passed this to C.I.N. Had he done as you suggested and worked for free C.I.N. would be down £9,000 plus presumably the GiftAid.

From all I have read it would be unlikely he’d want to do that publicly.

Remember, there is nothing stopping you earning £800k in a year Meddle, except a lack of talent I’d guess.

To try and restore some decency to this thread anything other than tributes from here on will be deleted.

Is there a similar painting of a tearful Pudsy Bear handing Wogan his cheque for £9,065 after his seven hours work presenting Children in Need in 2005; a year in which he netted £800k?

Buccaneer66

A very touching image.

John

It’s the official Children in Need tribute, they adopted after it went viral.

It’s odd what you remember. Portcelli is little remembered in the US, but my English sister-in-law mentioned the brick laying part awhile back when we accidentally came across an episode on cable.

Yesterday I was in Tuscon (where the series was set)and I recalled her wondering if he ever finished the house (and it was the house he was building, not just the chimney since most homes there were built Adobe style).

Don’t forget the human spray

& the four hundred children

I’d rate some of this thread as a new low for the General Discussion forum and that is quite a feat.

I’m always reminded of the old saying “If you can’t think of anything good to say, then best say nothing”

There were so many daft things that kept people listening to Wogan, from his original show you had people like Mangie Bendytoy (Barrie Manilow), the captain & toenail, his obsession with road cones, petrocelli’s chimney & many other daft things that his TOG’s will never forget.

It is unfortunate that some people are having a go at a broadcaster that was loved by millions. I have not watched Eurovision since he left it, his commentary was priceless. I also recall many years ago when he used to joke about the budgie at Reading station, then one day when I got off at Reading and heard the loudspeaker cracking Reading! Reading! Reading! I just laughed. He was maybe not to every ones liking but was inoffensive and those that knew him off stage all say he was a gentleman. One could see even H.M. the Queen enjoyed talking to him.

What on earth is the matter with some of you people ? Isn’t it sufficient to note that a light has gone out and most of us feel somewhat poorer for that ?

Sort of ironic coming from someone whose opinion usually comes from somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan.

Well said John.
I’ll miss the chap his radio breakfast show was legendary, back when him & the late Ray Moore bantered before program change over.

There is absolutely no requirement on the part of any one to analyse his talents on any kind of a scale. His capacity to entertain was writ large.
