Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

I saw it the first weekend it came out, and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bought it on DVD when it came out, too 🙂

Any others seen this movie that liked it as those of us who’ve posted already?

That sounds like Crimson Skies – does the game start in Hawaii?

If it is the same, I agree – it’s an absolute corker of a game, with lots of lovely little details.

It’s actually based on a board game of all things, long out of print, but still available on E-bay.

Just looked at the game, and yes it is Crimson Skies! I have recently connected my computer to the TV which is connected to the stereo so I guess I can scare the c**p out of the neighbours now!!! :diablo: :diablo:

Yea Crimson Skies has the same sort of comic book look about it.

Same here re. the CGI stuff. I thought the Royal Navy’s big flying carriers was a neat thing to see as well as the airplanes they flew. And of course I love the fact that it was a P-40, not a P-51 or a Spitfire that was the star (as far as the equipment goes anyway).

I loved the movie and the fact that almost everything aside from the actual characters(Angelina Jolie !!) was done in computer graghics just blows me away

Isn’t Sky Captain an old comic book hero? When I bought my computer a couple of games came along with it, one being Sky Pirates. You are a daring young hero pilot and the US is divided into several sections, governed by certain companies. You have to watch out for pirates flying outrageous fighters (built by Curtiss, Blackburn etc.) and shoot down enemy company cargo airships with more armor than Tirpitz! Or you can engage in airshow rivalry to better your opponents. Actually a fun game, and one can see where it has got its origin from!

As for fun movies which doesn’t have to be historically accurate; when will we see Steve Canyon on the silver screen? It was made as a TV series in the late 50s. And since Hollywood can’t seem to come up with good plots these days and recycle old movies, TV shows, and comics, here is a good choice!

Yeah – loved it – reminded me of those Saturday morning Sci-Fi serials we had at the Penn Cinema (Wolverhampton) in the ’60’s – only much better.

It’s a great flick, especially the Batman-like little gadgets attached to the P-40…however, I got the impression it was a post WWII flick (or supposed to be) because Jude Law’s character had flown in the Flying Tigers with his British friend Frankie…hence the souped up P-40 which he kept from his days in the service…but anyway…good flick, very much ‘Rocketeer’ like in its fun…

it is a hoot, I like it but then again I like Rocketeer, Daredevil, Mystery Men etc!!!

‘Sky Captain’, as I wrote two weeks ago, is just a fun FLUFF movie with no historical precedence to adhere to (loosely based, Jude Law’s character flew with the Flying Tigers…first time I’ve heard of a Brit with the Tigers)…other than that it’s all fun with a beefed up CGI P-40 that has ‘Batman’ style contraptions on it, and it’s a great ride…you see it, you will enjoy it.

If you want some P-40 action I suggest watching 1941. It had the best collection of comedy actors with John Belushi playing Capt. Wild Bill Kelso, trying to find the secret Jap airbase in the Pomona Alfalfa fields. 😎

Oh and that bit where he lands on the highway, pulls into the Petrol Station, jumps out with the P-40 idling and says “fill ‘er up !!”…..

According to a TV interview yesterday it was totally filmed in one (not very big) studio, with everything but the actors and their clothes being created off-screen. Made it cheaper than using multiple sets…
