We must always learn from tragedy. Free thoughts and discussion without being disrespectful is healthy.

I personally know a lot about this accident.

If there is a lesson then it is to be cautious when operating VFR aircraft without an instrument rating in what was really IFR conditions.

My intention is to make this my last post on this topic, as I don’t wish to draw this thread into a debate.

Whilst I understand that we’re all sorry, it’s my opinion that the loss of those on board is something which deserves focus. Discussion about the technicalities of the aircraft is secondary, if important at all. It is not my intention to appear sorrier than anyone else, or any such thing. It was a sad event without any doubt and it needs no emphasising, but nor does it need to be clouded by posts which refer solely to the aircraft.

We’re all sorry, but on PPRuNe, for one, there’s a kind of unwritten ban on endless RIP and my-heart-goes-out-to-the-family messages. It’s obvious, it’s done, we’re all sorry, let’s not get into a shirt-rending contest to see who’s sorrier…I agree that happymeal’s input is worthy of posting.

I don’t wish to cause offence or unrest, the point I was trying to make is that the loss of life takes priority over the loss of the aircraft. My feeling is that discussion about which sub-type the lost aircraft was takes the focus away from what’s important.

Awful news, my thoughts go out to the family and friends. Whether or not it was an A-1E or an AD-4N is completely irrelevent in the circumstances, the aircraft isn’t important at times like these.

I disagree, AdlerTag, if happymeal is correct, his input is valid. I am confident he feels as sad as you over this accident.

sadness

I had experience flying in this exact area around a decade ago. I was returning in a Cherokee Arrow from Spokane vfr and flew into unexpected deteriorating weather, snow squalls with a lowering cloud base and mountainous terrain all around. Flying up a valley was possible until it ascended into cloud, very scary followed by a rapid 90 degree tight 180 degree banking turn with the pine forest seemingly reaching out to grab us!! Scared witless we flew back the way we had come with cloud closing in all around putting us down to 350 ft over the undulating forests below. We called up Spokane who vectored us straight in, never have i been so pleased to see eight thousand feet of concrete with twinkling lights each side.

Not the A-1E, but the AD-4N.
