I was browsing the web and came across this Skyraider picture. I thought you would all like to see it.
G-RAID.

Ahem. (Didn’t know that!).
Yeah, but they don’t stick out looking scary, do they?
And yes, they hold good company – but their is always a fat ugly dog amongst the bunch of gorgeous girls in real life too – to make the others look more gorgeous.

It keeps good company too!!

Spads do have cannons in the wings. Four 20-mm guns just like the beloved Typhoon. 🙂
(The first time I ever went into the museum at Caen I was just mesmerized by the beast that was hanging from the ceiling. I’d seen photos of it before, but in person the Typhoon is truly a very intimidating aircraft.
Especially when the first time you see one in person it happens to be bearing down on you just like it did to those Nazi *******s in World War II. 🙂

Get some cannon in the wings, a big old rad scoop in front (for catching fish, as Sgt. Chef Armand ‘Fifi’ de Saxce once did. He was head cook) a different shape, different engine, and a green/grey paint job with black/white underwing surfaces and you may convert me.

Yeah. The latter. Obviously  🙂

What? Snapper or the 24 ‘H’:D
By: BlueRobin - 25th July 2003 at 21:43
Less reliable though?

“Flying Dumptruck” is the right term I think:)
Stick a 24 cylinder ‘H’ in front of it then snapper may like it
😉

Anything with a BIG F-O radial is noteworthy in my book.
*pause*
“We Were Soldiers Once…..and Young”.
Anyone read the book?

Oh, and Wyverns / Gannets suck too, I agree mate.
Ok then, as long as you dislike ALL big, ugly airplanes and not just big, ugly AMERICAN airplanes. 🙂 Best regards to all.

Blimey, i’d forgotten about this thread!
They’re tractors with wings.

I like the Spad. A good rugged aircraft that went through a number of incarnations during its career. A long loiter time and the massive amount of ordnance it carried made it an extremely effective close support aircraft for the Americans in Vietnam.
As to Snapper’s dislike of the Skyraider, well, it’s to be understood, the aircraft isn’t a Typhoon so is hardly likely to fill him with excitement. He lives in Lowestoft PII, poor chap’s more to be pitied than blamed.

We were soldiers is a great film!
Nice pic to btw. 🙂

I think you are thinking of a movie with Mel Gibson called “We Were Soldiers.” In it there is a scene where an A-4 Skyhawk provides ground support and then some “Sandy’s” come in to mop up what’s left.
I love the Skyraider, and I’m rather confused as to why Snapper doesn’t like them very much apparently.

What a BEAST!!! 😀
The Skyraider featured a bit in a recent Hollywood film. Forgot what it was called now…

Bloody waste of sky AND film, those things.
And I suppose a Wyvern is beautiful? Or how about a Gannet?

Bait taken, Snapper.
I wasn’t impressed until I saw a pair of them going round Duxford like steam trains during FL. What a great aircraft – it’s big, smokey, noisy, and manoeuverable!
