Just thought I’d share a quick, easy and very cheap method of slide copying;):).I took the set-up photo with an 8 mega-pix compact and it gives you some idea of what I was doing.I set the small compact on “close up” and gave it a 10 sec., delay on the timer, focused on the slide and hey presto a digital copy.
The timer helped the camera to settle and there was enough light from a 40watt bulb to bring these old medium format images to life on digital. If you have some under exposed slides just bang in a brighter burning 60watt bulb and it will help. You can alter the height of the slide to line it up just by moving it up and down the clip:eek::).
Any way here are some results of some slides I first started taking photo’s with an old Zeiss Ikon that had a slight light leak from late 80s to early 90s.Brian Lecomber was taken at Barton in 91/92 and the steam stuff was from Whitby about the same time.

Thanks for that info and was pleased to note your no holds barred approach to washing the film,it scares me to pieces just thinking about doing that and it going **ts up for me:eek::).
I will have too save for a macro lens now as in this day and age if these big companies don’t make equipment affordable too the “many” then the only alternative will be to invent our own method and they can harvest there profit from the well healed “few”.
Once again thanks and good luck with the copying ,it would be good to see one or two images of yours so I know what your results are….cheers

I made a slide holder out of thick black paper and white tissue as a difuser. This slides over the camera lens and I use the macro facility on the camera. Gives me good results and only cost about 50p 🙂 I did find with the older slides and negatives ( 25 years + ) that I had a colour hue, yellow with slides and blue with the reversed negatives- this was down to dirt or smoke and went away after I washed the film with a photographic detergent.

Two copied the same way and these are some 35mm slides from the early 90,s not bad considering the images weren’t the best anyway
🙂

Thanks pagen01…. I just remembered why I didn’t try the 35mm stuff is because I don’t have a macro lens but I,m sure any camera fitted with one will get a result.:)
