Small Access Hatch To I.D. Please

I have this small presumably access hatch. Don’t know what it is, how old or what nationality or where is came from (found in a shed). It measures 6 and a quarter inches in length and 5 and three quarters at the wides point. Has four small holes one end (hinge attachment?) and a larger single hole the other. What paint remains seems to be earth brown/green. There are no numbers on it at all that I can see and I have gone over it with a loup. A long shot I know but wondered if its distictive shape might ring bells with somebody. All suggestions appreciated. Thank you,

Jb

Ah thanks Bruce and everybody,

nice to attribute an aircraft to this piece, also the first piece I own that I know to be Mosquito. Just need to find an image of the hatch in situ.

Cheers,
Jb

Thanks for the input chaps. I have now cleaned it up a bit and sure enough there is a number. It is:

L.982639B
2

there is a feint B after the B in the main number but it is probably just a miss strike. There is also a feint oval stamp with what looks like:

826
DDH

But again it might just be the one D and a poor stamping.

Edit to my above; Its a Mosquito fuel drain cover, from under the wing, on the tank bay doors.

There will almost certainly be numbers on it, but you wont see them even with loupes. Give it a clean with some wire wool/scotchbrite – you will soon locate them

Looks like a Mosquito fuel filler, but that Miles hatch looks awfully close too!

Whilst not identical your hatch certainly looks similar to the type fitted by Miles. The image below is of the oil header tank access hatch from my Martinet project and is dimensionally similar. Has any paint fragments survived on the reverse side? On mine the part number is stamped approx 1″ down from the central hinge hole, perhaps clean this area up just in case?

Kind regards,

looks like a cover for fuel or an electrical plug. Dzus fastener goes on top, hinge on the bottom.
