Smaller weapons for internal carriage by stealth aircraft

We’ve discussed the smaller weapon loads of stealth aircraft vs non-stealthy ones before in similar threads. The topic always seems to come up. I thought it was time for a dedicated thread.

The trend seems to be for smaller weapons for the stealth fighters.
Rosco said on the F-15E Strike Eagle thread:
“The F-22A may only be able to carry two relatively bulky Mk 80s series derived bombs but will be able to internally carry between 6 and 16 smaller and lighter weapons like the Small Diameter Bomb, Small Penetrator Bomb and the LOCAAS cruise missle.”

Can you, or anyone else, tell me more about about these small weapons? I’ve heard a little bit about LOCAAS, but the 2 bombs you mentioned are totally unfamiliar to me. Is there any info and/or pics available??

I’ve heard that the USA is developing new explosives that have more explosive power per pound than today’s explosives. Will these new explosives be used for those smaller bombs?
