Morning all
Wonder if anyone can help me. We’ve been offered a Smiths triple brake pressure gauge which purports to have been fitted to a Stirling although I have some doubts
The only identification marks on it are Smiths 358PG and there are some AGS 904/A nuts fitted to the reverse and there is no Sect Ref annotated on it
It looks like a post war type to me looking at the bezel although I could be wrong. Any help on identifying a potential aircraft type to which it was fitted would be greatly appreciated
Allegedly Stirling Brake Pressure gauges are Dunlop AH.04040
Pics below
TIA

Thanks Windhover
I’ve let the chap know and he’s now going to donate it to the Jet Age Museum, so it’ll be going to a good home 🙂

Having worked at Smiths on instruments; this looks like a very late War/post War instrument. War period instruments normally had the projecting screwed bakelite bezel.
If the bezel is held to the case with eight screws and oval nuts, it is probably post war. The other thing to check is whether the four retaining nuts have a unified thread. If so (Indicated by three linked circles stamped into the nuts,) it is certainly post-war.
Incidentally; for reference, the S.Smith & Sons (England) name changed to Smiths Industries in 1966.

thanks guys
I found a Devon one on line which looked similar and clinched it for me that it was seemingly post war 🙂
cheers
