The first generation Atar turbojets had a unique feature – remote accessory gearbox, connected to the engine via a flexible shaft. The GB had the generator, hyd. pump and a 25 H.P. twin cyl. two stroke starter motor. The G.B. could be used as an APU for short time on the ground during pre-flight to drive the accessories with the starter motor, or connected with a clutch mechanism to start the Atar engine, or be driven by it.
Can anyone shed any light on this remote G.B.?
