Lockheed Hudson Mk.I N7310 / L of No.220 Sqn RAF, flew into Withi Gill on the island of Hoy, Orkney on the 19th March 1941.
My grandfather was at H6 Rysa Bay Gun Battery (3.7 inch Anti Aircraft) at the time, 6 or so miles away…
edit: I tried to add a load of photos but they won’t upload dammit. Here’s a video for a flavour of the trek (amongst other ramblings) and some video of the crash site and wreckage: https://youtu.be/Fr95AlYsI58

Thank you – very interesting to see the colours and degree of corrosion after 80 years on a hillside..

Yeah, rotten luck. I loved Orkney, especially Hoy. I’m back now -spent July on the road, from the bottom to the top and either side of mainland Uk plus Orkney. It was great!

Of all the luck to find Hoy when they’d have just sailed over the rest of Orkney. RIP, and trhank you Snapper for bringing them to our attention. Hope you are having a good trip – Orkney is wonderful!

I’ll keep trying. I can’t shrink them I’m afraid so I guess it’s the 64mb limit.
