so now they want to destroy Gibsons memorial site of his beloved pet?

So let me get this straight.. now they want to strip the memorial site of Guy gibsons dog, exhume the remains and clear the era due to the concern over the heritage protection?? Time to  denounce my citizenship, that countrys gone to hell in a handcart!

I Gather the idea is to exhume the dogs remains and place them in the care of 617 Sqdn at Marham. If it comes to that its possibly the best outcome but why should we be giving up or relocate our our heritage to avoid upsetting the minority. You cannot change history good and bad and why should we. I don’t see any American being upset by the word ‘Yank’ or us Brits as ‘Limeys’ or the French ‘Frog’, even the Russian ‘Ruskies’ So why are we so concerned about an obsolete word associated with the Black community, a lot of them are proud of the word. Leave the grave where i  is, if the story behind it isnt relayed to them they will never be the wiser. Anyway at the moment its all academic, we are waiting for that all important decision from the High court

Hi All,

  Jim Davidson said the other day he decided to watch The Dam Busters film and they have overdubbed Digger instead of the Dogs true name Nigger I just don’t get all this whitewashing of history,

How on earth are Children/Young Adults even Adults in general meant to learn the true version/events as regards history if they are actually learning a false narrative  ?

I served as a cook at Scampton and the RAF Police/Dog Handlers had mentioned sometimes a black dog had been observed outside the gates or wondering around the entrance every now and then.

Geoff.

Question… Gibson was awarded his VC shortly after the dam raid.

The photo (below) shows (quote)  “Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC (right), Dambusters hero with his devoted dog. The black Labrador was killed by a hit-and-run driver just hours before Gibson led the RAF’s crack 617 squadron to drop ‘bouncing bombs’ on German dams in May 1943“

The dog appears to be wearing Gibsons VC around its neck.

When did the dog die, or is it not a VC, or is the story nothing more than a myth?

I wonder how many ‘outraged’ commentators have bothered to read the full planning application as to the reasons why this is being requested?

FYI;

You can only give up your British citizenship or status if either of the following apply:

  • you already have another citizenship or nationality
  • you’re going to get another citizenship or nationality after giving up your British citizenship or status

You must also be:

  • aged 18 or over (unless you’re under 18 and married)
  • of sound mind (unless it’s decided that it’s in your best interest)
