Has anyone flown in any warbirds or preserved aircraft that are perhaps now in museums? I have flown in Swordfish LS326, Airspeed Oxford V3388, a couple of B-25s, B-17G “Sally B”, a Beech 17 Staggerwing, several Tiger Moths (can you call these preserved?) and even the RAF Jetstream that has recently been retired to Cosford. What have you flown in that is now in a museum?

It’s great that so many people have had the chance to experience these aircraft. Where there is a will there is a way. I’ve been really lucky, my first warbird ride was in 1989 in the right seat of Glen Lamont’s B-25 and I haven’t looked back.

THE AIRCRAFT IS NOW IN IN A MUSEUM IN IRELAND BRIAN C D
Think you maybe confusing G-ACIT with EI-ABI. CIT is the Science Museum store at Wroughton Wiltshire: non airworthy. ABI is airworthy with Aer Lingus at Dublin.

Did a lot of flying in Rapide G-AGSH in 1973 including 2 parachute jumps from it. It is now a “preserved” aircraft I understand.
As a pilot I flew numerous Chipmunks, Bulldogs, Gazelles and Sea Kings – remarkable that the latter is still a first line aircraft – some must be near to 40 yrs old?
Along the way had rides in now retired Sea Prince, Wasp, Jetstream, Wessex, Hunter, Canberra, Nimrod, Harrier, Andover, Argosy, VC10 (still going?), Britannia and Belfast.

Several Chipmunks (during my ATC days!) which have made it into preservation. I also flew on G-ARVM as a child but that doesn’t really count now … 🙁

Taking the term ‘preserved aircraft’ as being those that are now museum aircraft I can claim 2 and possibly 3 that are in the RAF Museum’s collection, and one other that isn’t.
Sedburgh VX275, as captain.
Hercules XV202, Trials Officer
Nimrod XV235 (is it still going to be dismantled and taken to Cosford?) Trials Officer
Then there was Dh 104 G-ARDE which now resides in a museum in the Gulf (Bahrain?)
The Harvard at Boscombe doesn’t count as itis still a working aircraft

Here goes..
Early/ mid fifties, Dads idea of child minding was “take the lad along too..” so many hours on weekends were spent in anything Air Charter Ltd that dad happened to be flying.. often Freighters, but mostly DC-4’s g-anyb and g-aofw, including a solid 3 months out of templehof in’56 in g-anyb.
Also an RAF Hastings flight around jan 1970, very low and very slow over a Vulcan that had crashed the day before at RAF ?? ( can’t recall)

thats easy to answer … I had only three (!) flights in my life (!) with old aircraft… multi engine Do28 Skyservant ..long ago, as I defended the country … and the two flights with a single engine in 2011: in January an old Piper Archer 😀 Elmar Meier at the sticks (I was allowed to take the controls for about 30 minutes) and in summer a beautiful flight over the Black Forrest with the magnificant P-51D “Lucky Lady VII”, Christoph Noethiger at the controls

Your welcome.
I also have a Russavia green ticket for the same aircraft issued by Swb, the flight being on the 13.4.86 that cost £9… and a yellow ticket issued by PM that cost £8 for a DC-3 for the 6.7.85 , take off 1.15 & landed 1.26. But sadly i didnt note down the reg.
Have a funny feeling though it was a Air Atlantique DC-3!
Yes we did use Air Atlantique DC-3’s

Happy Days!
My first ever flight, in Russavia’s Rapide G-AGTM at Duxford.
I was part of the wonderful volunteer team that operated GTM, as was Dave (G-ASEA) also on this forum. I may have briefed and boarded you for that flight!
Great to see our old leaflets and stickers – can’t believe how long ago it is now. Glorious times, lots of happy customers and quite a lot of flying as we filled in empty seats, and flew on crew training and positioning flights.
Thanks for posting!

Best I can manage is a couple of trips in Air Atlantique Dakotas but I am not sure where they are now.
Jackaroo G-AOIR on a Moth Charity Day at Old Warden and I was fortunate enough to win a flight in the Shuttleworth Tiger Moth a good few years ago now.

Having flown a few interesting draggers over the years my most memorable flights in a dragger were about 15 years ago give or take. I had been visiting Exeter when i was asked to be supernumary on a night out to Coventry for a show.
The a/c was the Howard 500, some dragger. We had a pleasant flight up, a few toots on the night out in Rugby then a flyby on Sunday and off home. Cheers Duncan. My position on take off/landing was in the furthest aft seat available, basically balast!! Nothing new there then. I understand it is now at Cov. I wonder what is happening with it? It was a very powerful beast. Happy landings.
