Soggy proms

If anyone considered going to the Proms at Duxford and didn’t go,they missed a treat.
Ok,it threw it down with rain, but it cleared enough to see some of the most emotive fly-pasts that I’ve ever seen.
Imagine two Spits in formation doing victory rolls over an orchesta playing the theme from TBOB,or a Lanc flying over with bomb-bay doors open to the strains of the Dambuster march!
I always get hair stood on end when I hear a merlin but I had real tears when these planes flew past and everyone applauded and waved Union Jacks.
Mr Blair hasn’t stamped out national pride just yet.
Couple of niggles-the entrance fee of £22 each was a bit steep and the on-site catering was abysmal (not the hard-working staff’s fault)but I was cheered to see people sat outside the arena getting as good a view as ourselves for no cost-good on yer!
The Wasp helo’s were great, drowning out the orchestra and the dark grey sky provided a great backdrop for the Corsair with it’s nav lights on and Glenn Miller’s music playing.
I could go on for ever!! Anybody else go?

Lets hope Duxford repeat the event next year. Very enjoyable evening, apart from the weather that is…

Proms

My first time at an event like this – and definitely not the last. Absolutely stunning. The music brought a whole new dimension to the flying, and vice versa. A deeply emotional experience, and wonderful to see people actually applauding as the aircraft flew past – you don’t see that too often.
The ticket prices might have seemed steep on the day, but if purchased well in advance they were about £16.50 I think – pretty competitive for this type of event.

I was there too! Thought it was great, only downer being the weather.

The flying was all exceptional, the Blenheim being a particularly spirited display. Truly was a flag-waving, typically English occassion (you don’t get those very often these days) and I’d certainly recommend next year’s event to anyone.
