Although the forecast looked awful the day’s flying started on time but the day started badly when the first item, the glider, crashed on landing after a premature release. The pilot survived but was taken to hospital with a back injury. Last report indicated that he was in good spirits.
By the time that had been cleaned up the weather had taken a turn for the worse but after much waiting the Catalina appeared and took off but soon ‘disappeared’. after a few passes in and out of cloud at a few hundred feet it elected to land downwind, probably because the pilot didn’t fancy a circuit in the vicinity of the hills and college

The Harrier did a repeat of Saturday’s performance – lift, hover and land

After much waiting Peter Teichmann took off in his Hurricane and made some low passes under a very low cloudbase before clearing off for Sywell and better weather.

and that was it! We were told the tableau would go ahead in some form at 4.15 but the weather worsened and very wisely they called it a day.

Conditions certainly looked atrocious for the Catalina. I decided to give Sunday a miss and went to Sywell instead.
Thank you for sharing your images

Those 2 shots of the Catalina could almost be called ‘Atlantic Patrol’, very moody.

I went as a friend wanted to see the Harrier display. He had worked on them in the early 1990s and was long over due seeing one fly again.
At least he got his wish and saw one airbourne and 3 on the ground, So in a way it was not so bad.
The glider accident was scary and I really feared the worst, I am glad it appears he will be fine.
The Hurricane and Catalina displaying in the murk was well recieved although I do agree with Johnr is was not nice when they disapeared out of view when turning. The Hurricane in peter Teichmann’s hands was undoubtably the she star of the show but more than part of me was glad when he departed safely.
Feel sorry for the organisers, So much effort and the weekend ruined by some of the worst weather going.

Not a lot you can do if the weather is against you, I’m sure the pilots who were due to display were just as fed up. Safety has to come first.
I agree completely. I wasn’t comfortable watching the Catalina and Hurricane as they went out of view when turning.
Yes, the pilots were as cheesed off as we were. I only went because I bought a ticket in advance

Sounds like a total waste of time if only 3 aircraft flew. Im so so glad i didnt make the trip from Kent on sunday after much deliberation and reading the meteological reports. I took a look at the cloudbase on the net and forecast and thought better of it. Shame though as its run by a charity and they deserve a full house and complete display schedule.
