A friend of mine recently penned an article looking at the Gloster Gauntlet currently flying in Finland (link below) – a fine story of tenacity against a fair few odds to keep this unique aircraft flying. The article also includes some rather lovely unseen air-to-air photographs of the Gauntlet over its home turf. I thought it might be of interest here, given there’s not an awful lot really published about the aircraft of late (I recall one article in Classic Aircraft, I think, some years ago).
Note the owner isn’t averse to bringing the Gauntlet to the UK for a season… One can only imagine!

From what I remember the engine/prop and the wheels are the main none standard items plus the instrument board and Leonides associated controls. The airframe components are Gauntlet.

For the uneducated among us: what, apart from the firewall-forward, is “non-spec” about this restoration? I don’t know enough about the type to tell from the photos.

Of course it would. But how many ‘spare’ Mercuries of the right spec. are available?

Seeing this with the two Gladiators at OW would be fantastic. Oh, and perhaps the Fury as well
