Solway Aviation Museum, Carlisle 14th Oct 2006

I had a day out via Ryanair to Prestwick recently and visited Dumfries and Galloway museum and the Solway Aviation Museum at Carlisle. My third visit there. Since my visit last year the F4 Phantom has moved from the airfield side of the fence to the museum site. The Sea Prince is looking very tidy and is open for visits inside it. The Lightning has also moved from down next to the Vulcan closer to the museum. The Vulcan has very recently received a repaint to the nose and tail areas. This must be quite recent because having seen some pictures from August it hadn’t been done. I think the Jet Provost may be a new addition sine last year as well.

Always a good museum to visit with some interesting aircraft and displays/exhibits inside.

Any comments/Corrections welcomed.

See my other thread for the Dumfries and Galloway Museum.

As you say, there is always a welcome at both Solway and Dumfries. Hope the problems with the land are sorted out soon. see

Nice pics thanks for posting them! Good to see the vulcan continuing to recieve TLC from the owners! A repaint goes a long way towards her long term preservation.
