Some for Auster Fan

I just thought I would add these to the forum for you if I can figure out how to get the pics to upload as I’ve been having problems with it since Our ISP went through their last upgrade.

Where were these shots talken? looks like it could be Rearsby? Will have to dig some of my Auster pics and get them scaned in!

All taken at Abingdon last year. Can’t remember if I have any more from this year’s Abingdon Fayre until the pics come back from processing as I still use old fashioned film.

And we think old aeroplanes in sponsors livery are something new!

Matt, do you realise you started a trend that ended up with the Red Bull Sea Vixen!!

SORRY!!!!

It was mentioned in Flypast recently, having been re-engined witha a 150hp Lycoming and redesignated as a J1/150 (mod) (I think!!), having originally been a J/1N

In fact she started life as a J1 with a Cirrus before being modified to J1N standard and a Gipsy Major 1.

My mates dad was a fitter during the WW2 Sicily/Italian campaign on Austers. Interesting listening to these stories, e.g. short mountain ridge ruways diving down the valley to gain takeoff speed, mixing parts from different Marks for field repair …

G-OJVC now seems to be G-AHCL based in Wales sporting a natty blue scheme and a Lycoming with what appears to be Maule-like cowing rather than the traditional Cub-esque design.

You chaps may also find the Auster on this thread on our RNZAF forum of interest. It’s an ex-UK one I believe.

The pictures from Mike are from Abingdon. The frist four of the six being at one of Neil Porter’s dos. The other two from the G-VFWE held there.

G-OJVC – I remember her in those colours. Dad used to take me around Sywell a fair bit years ago when you could walk around no problems. Also the first place I ever marshalled at – Bill Taylors do back in ’89 (IIRC)

This is one I rescued from Perth in about 1971 and The Aircraft Preservation Society of Scotland restored over a 10 year period.

Great to see the Husky XW635 – the only one the ATC ever had. Based for all of it’s life at 5 AEF at Cambridge until the RAF disposed of it. My first AEF trip was in that very aircraft in 1978 (?) on the same day as a Duxford airshow, wherevwe saw the BBMF inbound crossing well ahead and below us – fantastic! As I remember, it was normally flown by Flt Lt John Blackmore, who I believe was the first OC of 5 AEF on it’s formation in 1958-ish.

Is that G-ARLG D4/108 in the background of the second picture?
