After my girlfriend broke up with me and hopped into her mates bed I needed abit of cheering up and therefore me and my friend Paul made a few trips to Cranfield while the weather has been nice.. The shots arent perfect and nor is my camera skills, I just take photos for fun..

My friend, Tony, taxies in after a short local flight in his Beech Musketeer G-AWFZ – I’ve flown this aircraft, its a joy to fly. 🙂

Quality isnt great on this one but I included it because this shows G-BOUJ of Billins Air Services lined up on runway 18 and about to perform a short field take off. Runway 18 is rarely used at Cranfield.

Not sure what type the head on plane is – a Beech of some sort? Behind is G-MHJK, a diamond twin star of Cabair and also included is English Electric Lightning XS458.

Typical line up of aircraft parked on the disused runway – mainly Cabair Diamond Twin stars and Bonus Aviation Tomahawk’s and PA28’s.. A Thomson flying club Mooney G-OBAL is also in the shot..

March 8th is my grandads birthday. He would of been 75 but unfortunately passed away on May 9th 1996. He was my father figure as I grew up living with him and he also was the one that got me interested in aviation and helped drive my passion to become a pilot. This was pretty much the reason why I went to Cranfield today really, to honour his memory. We used to spend alot of time at Heathrow when I was growing up, but I couldnt get down there today, so cranfield had to do but thankfully I still got up close to an airliner type plane there..

G-RAVL, a Handley Page HP137 Jetstream 200 (construction number 208 ) belongs to Cranfield university and for many years was on static display outside one of the hangars and just off of taxiway Alpha, however in the past week or so she has been moved to the disused runway near the Lightning.

Thanks for viewing. I know they arent perfect, but they give an insight into what we get at Cranfield.

Aww gosh thats really unlucky! Sorry to hear about your nan suffering with dementia and then passing away. Very sad. I can understand why it was difficult visiting her as naturally your grandads death had hit you hard. I often find things are made easier when you can dedicate something to them – like a routine of going to where their ashes or grave is.. or keeping up a hobby that you did with them – like with me and watching/flying planes.. me and grandad also got messy with glue building airfix models, to which i’ve got a few on the go at the moment 🙂

Sure thing, i’ll send you a PM shortly.

indeed mate, i still do take it really badly, my nan died not long ago too after suffering since 2001 with dementia, every time i went to see her she would be talking about him, asking where he was etc and remembering stuff from their past, it got to the point where i couldn’t physically go and see her without breaking down and im the kind of person that doesn’t like showing my feelings, especially in front of my family

thanks for replying bud, means a lot, il take you up on the MSN chat dealio, can you send me yours as im on my phone atm

Scott

EGTC Well your camera skills look very good to me my friend !! every one of your moving shots have very good prop blur (something I am still working on !!) The last Jetstream has supurb reflections !!
I see a trip to meet and walk around coming up sometime this summer, as you have mentioned.

Keith. 🙂

Hey Keith,

We posted at the same time 🙂
Aww thanks! My camera is just a point and shoot really (Fujifilm S8000fd ) so I guess I get lucky with the prop blur! 🙂
Yep, sure thing. I’ll be available in the summer and will show you around 🙂

Thanks for the comment, Richard!

Darren, thanks! haha The friend she slept with was male. She claimed he was helping her get over me and it just happened. I told her he took advantage and got what he wanted. Even today she doesnt believe me and says she loves him but he dont love her. Thats her problem though.

Scott, Aww yeah thats a tough break isnt it? I must addmit I was never the same either after my grandad died. Its one of them things that change you which is a real shame but I suppose it builds character too in ways.
Sounds like you really take to it badly still! 🙁 If you ever wanna talk on msn send me a PM and i’ll give you my msn addy.
By the way, thanks for the compliments too. I did have a nice time yesterday at Cranfield.

excellent shots bud, nothing wrong with them

it was a nice thing to do to honor the memory that you and your grandad shared, me and you were in the same boat, he was my father figure for years, he died in 2001 when i was 13, i was pretty much lost from that point on, i still am in certain ways and often sit up at night crying because he’s gone

if you ever need a chat im here

Aww thankyou kindly 🙂
Things like the Chinook are by chance really. Sometimes we get a variety of military stuff fly past – I think a merlin landed on an emergency last year, the red arrows have flown past, I think the Vulcan has in the last year or so too (I could be wrong there) Its more down to chance really. Alot of military stuff transits the area though like Apache’s, Chinooks etc
