Some Lanc NX611 & AM Concrete pics….

After a year in which every show I’ve been to has been spoilt by cloud, took a day off work and drove to Lincolnshire this week for one of ‘Just Jane’s last taxy-runs of the year. Thought I’d do a quick tour of Bomber Command relics, too.

It’s a long drive and I left very early – arriving at Fiskerton just as the early=morning mist was burning off the old runways….

The memorial there is very nicely done.

Next on the list was Metheringham – always a strange sensation to drive along that old runway….

As you can see, the weather was just perfect……and it was good to be at East Kirkby again.

It was a long drive there-and-back in a day – but it was worth it !

A great post, thanks for sharing, and I too love the Tower-Lanc-Hanger shot!

I was interested to see photos you had of an old runway, have you got anything similar with regards to old ww2 runways as they do interst me.

Sadly these are vanishing fast but I’ve been visiting them since 1979…..:o

Here’s a couple for you. The first is Thorpe Abbotts main runway taken in August 1988 ( US 8th AF, 100th BG B-17s ). Very shortly afterwards this last section was removed for hardcore and this view can no longer be seen.

And here’s the main runway at RAF Bourn ( 97 ( PFF ) Squadron Lancasters ) taken in the depths of winter 2004. It’s still there, but the view has been altered by the building of a new dual-carriageway at the end….

Pictures can never capture the atmosphere but I’m glad I took them, nonetheless.
